A new trick to avoid WM5 media player to scan CF/SD-Slots after power resume!

Hi all X50/51 lovers!

I'm new here. First let me say thanks to all the gurus in this Forum who helped with their hacks and patches to make WM5 usable with the X50 (V). Many, many thanx!!

Now let me start with a new "trick". You all know about the foolish question of media player 10 of WM5 after power resume of the axim to rescan the CF/SD-Cards. If this window pops up you loose the last track and track-position which you played before powering off the device.
If this appears the next time when you have your MP opened after resume, try this:

1. close MP (Media Player)
2. open File-Explorer and there open CF- or SD-Card (with the top-left-button), where you store your MP3s
3. now leave File-Explorer open!
4. open MP und select a MP3-File out of the Card you have selected in File-Explorer and start playing this file
5. power off your axim and wait some seconds
6. power on your axim and now be uptight, if MP loose the last track...:hide:

It sounds curious, but in my case this works. MP keeps the last track and the stupid question appears not! :approve:

7. now you can close the File-Explorer
8. repeat the power off->on sequence some more times, MP should keep the last track

9. After a Soft-reset you have to reapeat these steps.

Please tell me if this works on your Axims too.

I have an Axim X50V, A00-ROM with German-language, WM5 with all the hacks I could found in these threads. There are 2 Cards inserted (1GB SD-Card and a 256 MB CF-Card, my MP3s are on the CF-Card)

Thanks, gufoe

Some more informations...

I experimented some more and got some insights in this mystery:

- leave File-Explorer closed
- edit registry:
Pocket PC\HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\File Explorer
- set "LocalPath" to "\CF-Card"
- set "StorageCardPath" to "\CF-Card"

- save and close registry-editor

and now open Media Player and select a MP3 from the CF-Card and start playing.

This hack should work until the key will be overwritten by the "File-Explorer" when you use it. Test it and tell me!

I'm not sure when theses entries are updated. Choosing a new path with File-Explorer has no direct influence on this entries. Maybe WM5 has a kind of scheduler inside, which updates those entries maybe at night or if the system is powered off for a longer time?? Does anyone knows about it?

Maybe a PocketPC-guru can write a small patch which set this registry entry everytime when the system is powered off/on.
