Question Axim 50v power-on probs, freezing etc

OK, so last week I got a replacement for a 50v that was killed by WM5, they sent me a 50v with with 2003se on it, lastest rom version.

All was great, I installed a few programs, TOMTOM and SPB thingy. Phojo and that is about it. Butt then.......>

I noticed on day 3 that when the device was plugged in via USB, that I could not turn it on, after it turned itself off (after set time)
This was a bit odd, as it was plugged in and apparently charging (battery went up) but the device did not go to power profile and turned itself off after 3 minutes.

To get it on I had to take cable out, then power button would work - no big problem, but odd.

:exc: Then I used TOMTOM on a 2 hour journey and it crashed several times. Just when I needed it too!

:exc: I then noticed that if the device had been off for a few hours, even with a full battery, it would not start with the power button (yes, lock was off:-)

I would have to soft reset to get it going, taking battery out and back did nothing for me.

:exc: SO, last night I tried a full hard reset, took out all added software and started fresh, and since then it is WORSE! It freezes when just navigating around the programs and files. And it still WILL NOT turn on with the power button, after a few hours off.

So, I am again about to give in, I am really wasting far too much time on this thing and it is putting me off PDA's big time, right now my phone is more usefull!! I just want to use it as GPS mostly

Anyone got any great ideas or solutions, other than another special return delivery??

It might be something quite simple, like a bad battery, but since you have just received the replacement, I would call Dell and get another replacement. No use getting this one to kind of work and the have to start over, when it fails for good.

If you really want to just use it for GPS I suggest to just buy a dedicated GPS device. I have a X50v & Tom Tom Nav.5, it constantly crashes. So I use my old Toshiba e740 it works fine. A friend of mine saw my GPS and wanted to get one. I suggested to get the TomTom 700 it works perfectly every time. I should have done the same thing, but I use my X50v for other things so I'm hooked.
