My Axim X50v running WM5 experienced it's weekly crash. When I tried to hard reset it gets to the Dell screen and the status bar at the bottom of the screen stops about three-quarters of the way through. I've tried hard resetting, letting the battery run out, taking the battery out and it always ends up back at the Dell screen where it locks up.
I can't help at this stage but I have exactly the same problem as you. Axim X50v running WM5, I get to 3/4 on a hard reset and then nothing. 3 days ago the same thing happened and I found swapping between two batteries whilst trying hard resets eventually brought my Axim around. Yesterday however it happened again and this time I'm getting no where!
Out of interest are you running SPB Pocket Plus or did you load anything which didn't agree with your pda, what about registry tweaks?
Hopefully with the forums help and also with 2 people working on it we may find a solution. Good Luck!
That's the strange thing I haven't done anything differently. This happens every so often that I'll have to hard reset. Soft resets are even more frequent, almost daily. It was doing it even before WM5. I haven't changed any settings and I only use about three programs all which supposedly are okay with WM5: Quickverse Bible Software, AgendaFusion and ListPro. I'm trying the battery switchout suggestion but no luck yet. I'll keep you posted.
i'm not much of a "joiner" but we all have the same problem.
1. i upgraded to WM5 - i had a active-sync compatability issue at work and it looked like WM5 would help - plus why not???
2. i started having reboot and battery problems a few days later
3. i bought a new battery
4. i started having reboot and battery problems
5. a couple of days ago froze at 3/4ths of the reboot
6. for the last 36 hours i've been stuck
can't find my copy of WM2003se (i've moved - i can find the damnedest things - rubber mice, baseball hats from little league (18 years ago) but no WM2003)
Welcome to the club nickopolis, I'm so sorry you've ended up in the same boat as somiller72 and myself my friend.
Anyhow, will WM2003SE help!? I figure, that is unless you can direct me otherwise, that without an Active Sync between the PC and the Axim unit you not going to get the ROM to roll back. The Axim needs to get back to it's today screen.
I'm trying a long shot at the moment - I've taken out my CF & SD cards, removed the battery and I'm leaving the unit for a few days. I may have dreamt it but I thought think I read somewhere that internal memory is retained whilst the unit has backup power? Well my hope is if after a few days by adding a fully charged battery to the unit something may just happen. If not then I'll be phoning Dell and arranging for the unit to go back for some attention.
Bad news I'm afraid it didn't work, I still have the 75% bar and we go no further!
I see somiller72 found the other thread I did today, nickopolis it appears to be a known issue in the forum and everyone who has suffered this problem has had to have their units replaced by Dell. So, I guess tomorrow I'll be calling Dell's Spanish branch, who actually operate out of France!?
Good luck with your units and your nearest Dell Support team.
Hi guys, well I have had the same problem for quite awhile..couldnt take it anymore, so dell said they are working with Microsoft on an error and trouble free version of 5, and know about the problems, and suggested going back to 2003
I did, and glad I did. Its gone back to a useful tool instead of a pain in the pit of my stomach every time i tried to turn it on....a useless $500 paper weight.
Dell said anyone that purchased wm5 will get notification of fixes when they come out.
nickopolis & somiller72, I phoned Dell España this morning and I can confirm what everyone else is saying, it's a known issue and in 24/48 hours a courier will be bringing me a new Axim!
Interestingly enough I've been told that if I want to re install WM5 then I need to call the Dell Support team again as they have a patch and configuration details to prevent this happening again!
Somiller72, I read that yours is out of guarantee? - if you ring Dell and quote your oreder number for the WM5 upgrade you should be able to do the same as it's not your unit that's at fault it's a known software issue. Good luck.
My 50v has been experiencing the battery drain/ can't see the CF card thing for quite a while since I "upgraded" to WM5. It also wouldn't wake up at all and needed a soft reset.
This morning for the first time it would not power up, hanging at the Dell splash with about 90% of the bar completed at the bottom. Soft and hard resets later, it's still not finishing the boot.
Add me to the list of those who called Dell, was under warranty, and have a new 50v coming as a replacement!
As this seems to be a known issue it makes you wonder how many other people have had to call Dell for a replacement. Maybe this info. needs to go somewhere more permanent so that other desperate souls can find it fast. Being new to this forum maybe one of our more experienced friends could advise on how we go about it and whether it's worth it.
When I get my new Axim, I'm still going to call the Dell helpline as I'm intrigued to say the least, as to what patch or configuration stuff they are going to offer me which will enable the WM5 upgrade without fear of this happening again. When I have the info I'll post it here ok.
The problem for me is my warranty, It was finished the past jaunary.
Any Ideas?
The very very strange, is I executed the Test Hardware program by pushing Reset+Power+Record, and particullary the memory tests were passed! all hardware goes ok!!!
I wondering about if is possible to restore the wm5 rom from the sd card, but I cannot remember what keys should be pressed to start the restoration proceess from the sd.
After the wm5 is back, the idea is to kickout from my axim and get wm2003 again.
About the restoration rom from the sd, I did it when I had a x3i, and in this one when I made languge change tests (Just for hobby), but I cannot remember what keys. I tried whit Reset+Power+Wifi but this one not works...
