Aximsitex50icon Should I Update or leave it alone

I have had my X50v for around 1 year. After the I installed the Free Mobile 5 update, Nothing but problems until the blue screen of DEATH. Dell replaced it for me and I have not had a problem with Windows secound edition. After about 6 months, Of problem free operations, Should I update or not? If so, what fixes should I do to keep it running smooth?

if wm2003se works great, and wm5 has problems, then why would you want to 'upgrade'?

My view is that unless Dell will release an update that fixes the problems with WM5 on an x50(v) then do not do it. I understand that some of the problems cannot be fixed such as the Axim's flash being slower so you get those periods of slowdowns during use. But I am betting the hard reset is built into the boot loader which can be fixed.

If you want to run WM5 you might want to try to get Dell to replace your x50v with an x51v which will run WM5 without too many problems.

You actually can fix the "blue screen of death" yourself. What you have to do is use the SD image loader and either go back to WM2003 or reinstall WM5.

I would advise using only this software and some basic maintenance software, i.e. Pocket Mech., to run WM5. I allow boot-up time on my PPC and expect some delays because of the real-time features in WM5. I won't let that take me into a "compulsive-frenzy" of mutilating software that I did not program. I tried the install with Solsie's fixes first and fazed by all of the hack job's. After a complete reinstall I found that a wise install is to run Tweak 2k2, tested software, and do usual maintenance. Any other quirks have been eliminated by simple system reboots, just like my XP if it has issues. I like to think of it as a more methodical and organic approach to composing my PDA's functionality.
As for you, good luck, however you decide to approach installation. My X50 is here to stay for a while, I won't be purchasing another PDA in this style of construction. It will be a year or so until I decide on the upcoming improved mobile computer. I don't bet on any manufacture right now. I will look for the advanced features just the same. No reasoning exists for me to buy a trend which is already one of my assets and, in my view, just as comparable. - SW.
