Question Please help! Battery switch=hard resets, Reinstall errors-soft reset=hard reset!

Hi Guys,

Appreciate any help here.

My woes began when I switched out my low battery with a fresh one. My x50v did a hard reset and I cursed. (Prior battery switches had resulted in soft resets and the fresh battery showing the same low charge as the one removed.) All battery switches now result in hard resets.

I then had problems reinstalling programs. I got install errors re: various .cab files or .tng (?) not being copied. I was given the option to continue or cancel the install. Either choice resulted in a freeze-up. The soft reset I then attempted became a hard reset and I was back at square one.

Not sure what to do now. Please help.

Thanks,
Graham

PS. Will Backup Buddy allow me to restore installed programs or at least the .exe links to programs installed to sd/cf cards

I would do a real hard reset clearing all data (backup first) and try installing again. If this doesn't work, call Dell BTW does the new battery charge at all. It maybe defective then.

Your backup battery must be dead.

Man thats crazy, thought Id give you atleast a bump as I have no idea

is your backup battery charged, if it was exhausted for whatever reason could be the result of your hard reset on battery removal

Also I use sprite backup which should be similiar and with a good backup it restores everything perfectly from the shortcuts to the programs, its an exact copy of your pda at the moment of backup and returns it to that backup

Main batteries charging fine

Thanks guys.

Whichever battery I put in seems to charge fine, but yes, the backup battery must be dead. Battery setting says it's fine, but I can't think of another reason why it would hard reset on a simple battery switch.

What really throws me is my inability to reinstall programs. Just errors, freezes and hard resets (when I'm only attempting soft).

Appreciate the word on Sprite Backup. If I ever get thngs back to normal I'll be coughing up that money instantly.

If anyone has other ideas, keep 'em coming.

Thanks
Graham
