Aximsitex50icon Problems with Dell Axim X50v

My Dell Axim X50v LCD screen does not respond to the stylus any more for some reason. The screen turns on, and the buttons below the screen work, but I can't navigate anywhere around the screen. The lock is in the unlocked position. I've tried soft resets, hard resets, hard resets in the cradle, and I even tried updating the ROM (sadly, I could not, however, because I can't get past the Screen Align screen where it has the cross-hairs to align the screen). I have to be on the Welcome screen in order to update the ROM, and I can't even get there.

I was told by a Dell support person yesterday that since my Axim is now out of warranty (by about 4 months) that I can call this other Dell toll-free number and see if I can get a replacement for a much reduced price. I was also told that I had 5 business days from the end date of my warranty to renew/extend the warranty. I don't think I was ever notified about this.

Any thoughts from anyone out there in Axim land???

One thing to try is if you have a screen protector on it, remove it and take a business card and run it around the edge to clean out any possible dirt and see if it works then. Other than that if you don't want to go with getting a new one you could try taking it apart and see if the ribbon cable has come undone somehow. There are instructions on this site but you will have to do a search for that.

I don't have any screen protectors on my Axim, and I have also tried cleaning out the edges with a piece of paper. That didn't seem to work.

I should also add that I recently was on vacation from July 20th to July 30th. I realized on the 31st that I had left my Axim at work. When I began to use my Axim on the 31st, I saw that maybe 5 or 6 alarms/notifications had gone off at various times between July 20 and July 31 (basically reminders of birthdays, anniversaries, and meetings that were brought in from Microsoft Outlook).

I wouldn't think that these reminders would cause the screen not to respond to stylus input.

Big Dave's diagnosis is almost certainly correct. Try using something thicker than a piece of paper (like a business card as he suggests) and run it round the edge of the screen underneath the edge of the case. Go in as far as you can. This effect can certainly be caused by some dirt or detritus (good word that!) stuck between the screen abd the case.

Good Sir, I to am having this same problem. Only I noticed mine a little quicker than hoferchr did. And the weird thing was I was using it not more than 8 hrs prior to the failure. Also, I to had an "alarm" go off when mine stopped working.

I have taken mine apart to look at the ribbon cables but everything in that respect was A Ok. I'm at a total loss... have you guys EVER heard of something like this... or is this just a freak thing that has only happened 2x?

Any help on this would be great!!! :exc:
