left channel only sound

suddenly my x50v started outputting sound only from the left channel with stereo headphones and via my car speakers using a cassette insert. I have used 3 or 4 headphone sets. Happens in WM and audible.com audio.
I can't find anything about stereo sound in the help files.

Any thoughts?

thanks
Rich

are you inserting the headphone jack in all the way ? or have you used some program that could have adjusted the balance to just the left channel and left it there?

This is almost certainly a headphone jack socket problem. They give quite a lot of trouble on the X50 and X51 series.

Try putting a very small amount of switch cleaning fluid or WD 40 on the jack pin (so that it is damp rather than wet) and then moving it in and out of the jack socket several times.

If this doesn't work then I am afraid that you will have to open up your Axim and either fix or replace the jack socket - ubless it is still under warranty, of course, in which case send it back to Dell.

If you are using Spb Pocket Plus, this might be the answer to your problem.

I'm not running Socket Plus. I've tried the cleaning suggestions and they did not work. Any instructions anywhere on fixing or replacing the socket? I don't listen to much music, but it is very annoying.

thanks for your help

Weird suggestion I know, but have you tried doing a hard reset?

I had the same problem, and 'phoned Dell; they told me to do a hard reset. I only did it to humour them - I mean, problem with sound through just one chennel - that's obviously a hardware problem, and we all know that the Aximheadphone socket is a bit rubbish.

But knock me down with a feather, it worked.

Thanks. I'll give that a try as soon as I finish this book in my left ear. I don't have that many programs loaded but still a hassle.
