WM5 x50v Troubles Still Exist?

I have been away from the 'scene' for several months now. Last I heard, there were ABUNDANT issues with WM5, so I never upgraded.

What I want to know is, have Microsoft/Dell gotten all of the issues worked out to the point that there is a low possiblity of bricking my Axim (x50v)?

You won't brick it but you may not be happy with the results either. WM5 doesn't play well with the x50v even with all the tweaks and fixes. If you want to have a go at it see the thread 'WM5 is here to stay' where the fixes are listed.

Another option if you are still under warrantly and have the WM5 CD is to go online with Dell and ask for an x51v replacement because of the the troubles that the x50v has with WM5. There is a thread outlining how you go about doing this - do a search for it. Most folks have been able to upgrade with refurbished x51v's if they really need WM5 - Dell seems to have admitted that the WM5 upgrade for the x50v doesn't work well.

If you really don't need WM5 then you are probably better off staying with 2003SE on the x50v. It is stable, it works, and it runs better than WM5 on the x50v (and as well as WM5 on the x51v). Hope this helps - I struggled with the upgrade for 6 months on the x50v and it was not pretty.

who knows Dell has been slacking off on us x50 and x50v owners. They been concentrating on x51 models. Besides that its unlikely where gonna get an ROM upgrade unless the new OS WM6 or CE6 Dell makes it an upgrade for all of us

I agree with psionandy, if you want WM05, upgrade you X50 and then get Dell to send you an X51, it works a HELLOVA lot better! after using my X51v for jsut 72 hours, I shudder ot think of the X50v with WM05, it's a radical improvement.

There has only been one release of WM5 for the X50V.
