I am running A02. I have noticed on my unit that this only happens after I get a low battery warning. If I swap before the warning, it registers the fresh battery.

Nope! I was wrong. It will NOT register the new battery; also, it will not keep the correct time while turned off after swapping to the extended battery. When I swap to the extended, I'll use for a while, turn it off and notice the time, then turn it back on hours later to find the time is the same as when I turned it off. I started another thread on this subject not knowing the two were related.
Anyone else notice the time messing up after swapping to the extended?

I'm having the same issue too. I had it on WM5-A01 on my X50v, and not changed when updated to A02. I've not noticed the time issue, except that sometimes the new A02 shows the time on the Today page and the title bar at the same time, before switching to the power meter, and only one time have I noticed that they disagreed (can't remember which was slow).
I've always put this down to problems with the internal battery - whenever I take the battery out it prompts for hard reset, so I *HAVE* to do a Soft Reset whether I wanted to or not. I'm sure that wasn't the case when I first upgraded it to WM5, but has been for a LONG time.

For me, now i would leave the unit without battery for about 2 minutes during the swapping.
With this there's no Hard Reset prompt and what i need to do is just to set the date, which IMO is safer :)

Obviously, I don't HR every time - that would be a pain. I have no choice but to let it SR though.
I left my battery out for about 10 minutes once to test if it really WAS the backup battery (and if it was, what draining and recharging might do to it: no change BTW), and on reinsertion it Soft Reset without any prompt at all.
Yours doesn't do this, just loses the time? Odd.

I have to do the soft reset, also. I went ahead and did a fresh install of all my programs today....Whew! Battery meter still didn't register properly before I installed everything, so at least I've narrowed it down to WM5. I'm calling Dell to see what they have to say....stay tuned...even I can't wait to hear this!

nope, I have to soft-reset also, just that there is no "hard reset" prompt which I found somehow dangerous (you never know if you'd really press the 2nd button one day!)
lets see what Dell has to say on this..

I don't know why I ever call tech desks. I guess I am a glutton for punishment. After being placed on hold numerous times, the final answer was to replace my Axim with another x50v with WM2003SE on it. Spare me. I said the only way I'm going to exchange it is for an x51v. He replied "We are not doing that any more." Little does he know, my half brother works for Dell sales in Nashville, and I can get one if I want it!
Sucka!
Oh well. This is why we have forums. I'm sure after enough troubleshooting, we will find the answer.

I'd just like to add my voice to those suffering this problem.
I never noticed it before, but I've been travelling a lot lately and changing the battery when the low level warning comes on. When I change it the low level keeps popping up even with the fresh battery.
WM2003, latest ROM (A05).
Sometimes the device comes on and prompts to do a hard reset.
Frustrating. Hopefully somebody can come up with a fix.

Ah! A new twist to the tale. There has to be a registry entry causing this. I just know it!

I too have the problem - I've noticed that if I put on the charger (USB or cradle), the battery indicator goes to 100% after about 10 minutes charging.
