Hmm Axim X50 faded screen Sluggish performace

Hi everyone,

My wife has the Axim X50, ROM A05(07270500), Windows Mobile 2003 Second Editon Version 4.21.1088 (Build 14260.2.0.5)

It has been running quite nicely for a year and a half, and now it has begun to give us troubles.

The first trouble was the screen had "drained colour", like when your tube TV first blew up and the colour was funny. I tried some things, switched the view so that cleartext was not enabled and then I could navigate around it again, but the performance was sluggish and the screen was still bad.

I ended up doing a hard reset. When you do this the screen that comes up next is perfectly clear and sharp:approve: , and says "You are about to erase everything, are you sure about that?" (not an exact quote). Then you reset it and it is back to slugville .

I do not get it. I wish I had been diligent and kept the first ROM to roll back to, but I did not.

Can anyone help? Dell basically said that I am out of warranty, and they don't fix them, so if I want it fixed then go to google. Nice.

Help please

Mark

You may want to un-install any todayscreen utilities and any games you have. They tend to do strange things to the display in order to spedd up operation or provide functionality.
Doing a hard reset is not the end of the world either. Just make a list everything you have installed (and make sure you have the software), make sure you do a DATA backup to an SD or CF card (backup any other files manually via the AS explore function) and do the hard reset. It will perform a garbage collection for you. In other words, your registry will shrink back down to the original size, which means faster operation. You can then start to install your apps again one by one to see which one screws up your screen.

Aximsitex50icon Places to try if it is a hardware problem

If it is a hardware issue, you can try to have it repaired at PocketPC Techs, or if you are mechanically inclined, you can try replacing the screen yourself, parts, tools, and instructions are available from PDASmart.com

His screen is fine - he said that when he goes to the hard reset OK screen, it looks normal. It's probably some video driver that was installed.
