I thought I would relay my recent calls with technical support:

I just picked up a used x50v with WM5 upgrade for CHEAP on ebay from all the idiots who don't realize its the same exact hardware as the x51v minus some very expensive ROM...granted they get a working copy of WM5. Well as most of you know, and now me , the WM5 upgrade was a sham!!!

So I called to gripe and find out what they were doing about it. Mainly to see if I could socially engineer my way into finding out when the new ROM update would come out.

Fortunately I got a guy who really did speak pretty good English...

He said they'd release it online and send out an email to all the people who had purchased the upgrade. Furthermore, and adding further insult to injury, Dell will release this 5.0 upgrade for free to everyone is my understanding. He told me it would be released in about a month. In desperation to get a more specific date, I complimented his english and eventually ended up talking to his manager.

The manager tried to smooth over my misgivings with Dell. All the while I told him how I was a reluctant former user of HP's and regretted not getting the more expensive hx4705. This really got his goat and he finally told me the WM5 ROM would be released in "2 DAYS!!!!!!!!!!!"

We'll see, he could just be telling me what I wanted to hear, but he sounded sincere and was a manager...

Again, the promise was 2 days and it would be released to everyone via dell's website!

Keep as much information as possible, and when Dell doesn't release the update, ask them for an X51v. It's only fair if they don't live up to their side of the deal.

I was board so I made another call...

First the technician told me they're waiting for Microsoft. Which why the hell do they need microsoft to write a driver? At that I demanded to talk to a manager who clarified and said everything is finished they're just waiting for approval from Microsoft to release it. Seems reasonable I guess, but why would Microsoft delay?

I mentioned my previous call as well as the many documented empty promises on this site...he couldn't say much (Carlos was the manager's name). He of course confirmed the Dec. 20th release date but blamed microsoft. He gave a vague January release this time...

When I asked about trading in my x50v for an x51v he about choked and said it wasn't possible which I called him on saying its been done before. He finally consented that it had been done but said its not customary, special cases only, and hasn't been done for a while...so no dice!

He said they actually track aximsite and said that they're aware of their poor customer standing and are trying to improve it. I simply said then acknowledge that there is a problem, and send out an "email" on this giant customer list that they are apparently collecting. Give yourselves some credibility...which he agreed.

*I don't know how many people are constantly calling and hounding them as I am, but let me know if you are and who you're talking to. I'd like to compile a list of manager names and empty promises. It'd be nice if we can document a company track record here...they can't blame it on somebody else if we list every manager they have!!!

I think a new rule should be placed on rumors regarding WM5 updates for the x50 series. Unless he/she has definitive evidence one will be released (like a rom image *cough cough) then he should keep his mouth shut. This is getting really annoying.

I think there should be a new forum created for these rumors and mark it write-only; no read.

I agree, make a forum for the rumors of updates, justl ike hte tell tablet rumor forum. I saw "x50 windows mobile rom update..." as a title and clicked thinking somone was having a problem updating their ROM, only to find another cup of creid tears and box of empty promises thread... it's very annoying to those os us who dont want to deal with all the rumors, and if you WANT to read them, then you could go to the "rumors" forum! am I right?

As my last post said, I think we should make an effort to document broken promises. At no time did I give another firm date, just report their claim. If that's an annoyance for you, then start by -------!

This site is important for showing Dell's trackrecord...not sure why you would take offense to that unless you work for them. If I was aware of this problem to begin with then I wouldn't have bought an x50...further prooving my case for keeping up on this topic!

I have lost track how many time someone posting that we will have new x50 rom update in 2 days, 1/23/06, etc. This is getting tiring.

Now do you blame us for gritting our teeth everytime we see this kind of post?

Keep it civil and keep it clean. I dislike altering other's posts... but in this case did so.
