x50v with WM5 was good for 3 months but just died. Can't hard reset. Help!

I finally upgraded my x50v to WM5 3 months ago, and after reading about the Activesync hack got it working beautifully. I was using Synthesis SyncML client to do https syncing of calendar and contacts rather than Activesync, which made me even happier. Then a week and a half ago I switched jobs to a Microsoft shop, and started syncing using Activesync to Outlook, and it worked fine. My battery didn't die either.

This morning I switched it on, it had 71% battery life left (not too bad after Christmas holiday not being used), slapped it into the cradle, it synced happily. I took it out of the cradle as I was installing Logitech SetPoint bluetooth software onto my PC. (The bluetooth on my x50v was not switched on.) Daily Sprite Backup failed because it wasn't connected to the PC. When I next switched my x50v on, I got a memory corruption error: press the contacts button and if that doesn't work hard reset. Pressing the contacts button made the screen go slightly funny (as if it wasn't quite powered off, some slightly lighter gray lines at the top of the screen), but nothing happened after that. Hard reset had no effect.

Help please!

sounds like the lock button is on? usually the memory error was caused by the battery being drained. try removing any cards, charging it for a while, make sure the lock switch is not on and see what happens.

Thanks Big Dave. I guess I must have locked it with the power on. Idiot that I am. Charging it has worked, and it hard reset. Now I'll apply the new ROM and apply my backup.
:)

glad it worked. you have now become a member of a pretty large club. That switch has caused more threads than probably any other single thing. Some people use it all the time and others, like me, have never used it. but all of us have accidentally turned it on and panic sets in when nothing seems to work. Welcome to Aximsite!!
