Exclamation X50 / CF hanging issue : Hair being lost..

Please help...

I have a 4GB CF card (myMemory)

When I turn on the X50 and click on Programs it takes ages for all the Program icons to display with the card inserted.

If the card is insitu and I do a soft reset, the Programs icons all appear quickly and I can load them. However if I turn the Axim off and back on again, everything hangs and I have to do another soft reset.

If the CF card isn't in the Axim everything is fine.

I thought this was the compact flash card itself, but I have formatted it without any problems. Did a low level error seek on the card and no errors were found. Filled it up completely with no data errors.

It reads fine from my card reader.

I have Windows Mobile 2003 SE (build 14260.2.0.5)

Are there any issues with larger CF cards and this version of WM?

Some rogue application in the background running because the CF card is inserted?

Many thanks

Do you have a "My Documents" folder on the card? If you don't, then every time the card is detected it does a complete file inventory. It also puts a 0 length file called "ignore_my_docs" on the card as a signal that there is no My Documents folder.

I had a look and I have a My Documents folder on the CF flash card. I deleted the My Documents folder and did a soft reboot.

All was ok for a while and then the PPC hung. I couldn't even turn it off. I did another soft reset and then was able too..

Any other ideas?

You WANT the My Documents folder. You DO NOT want the ignore_my_docs file. Create a My Documents folder, delete the ignore_my_docs file.

You DON'T want it to inventory the entire card all the time---that takes time.

put all your files and programs inside the "My Documents" folder once you create it on the card this is the folder your pda looks for first to find everthing on the card

I recreated the My Documents folder and placed my files in there. I removed the ignore_my_docs file but still the unit hangs

Any other ideas?
