Exclamation HELP: Serious Problem with Dell x50v Screen

Am not sure how it happened, but the display on my x50v just went bonkers earlier today.

There is a huge "oil stain" type mark at the bottom left of my screen. See attached picture for what I mean.

When powered on, the "oil stain" appears as a grey blob. The bottom third of the screen is also failing to display any image, and generally appearing whites with a yellowish tinge where the blob is. Additionally, there are now multi colored vertical lines of red, green, blue on the left of the screen. See below picture for what I mean.

I am pretty sure I didn't bump the screen did not suffer any knocks, so for the life of me I can't understand how this could have happen.

Unfortunately, my 2 year warranty had ended 2 months ago. Its past office hours hear, I couldn't call Dell up, thought I would post on aximsite to if anyone has helpful advice.

What could have cause this problem? What is the prognosis? Is this beyond repair or not worth repairing? Given my warranty has expired, would Dell even repair? Would really be appreciative of any advice. Thanks in advance.

Looks like something is putting pressure on the screen. Do you have a new screenprotector? Is there something in the case that is pressing on the screen.

I would try gently massaging the area, and see if there is any improvement.

Hi, no, there is no new screen protector. I have tried massaging but it doesnt appear to help.

Well, I get to ask the dumb question this time. :)

Does it stay in the same place if you rotate the screen?

I had suspected the worst. Anybody know how would Dell treat such cases? I would imagine the replacement would be costly.

If it is 2 months out of warranty, you probably won't get far with Dell. Wouldn't hurt (much, you'll be on the phone a while!) to try... Dell doesn't repair Pocket PCs by the way, they only replace them.

PocketPC Techs will replace it for $209: http://www.pocketpctechs.com/main~un...50%2DLCD01.htm

You could try eBay for a non-functional X50V and swap the screen...

Looks like the LCD is cracked and there is a leak between the layers.

Yeah, unfortunately your LCD is broken (the material inside the pixels is leaking out). You will need a new screen...
