battery drains in a flash - technical fault?

(x50v, wm2003, latest rom)

Battery drains in less than 4 hours no difference switched on or off. No progs running. Just purchased a new battery – no change. Tried wm5 now sitting on wm2003. Bought thing on ebay some month or two ago.
Any suggestions? I am guessing it’s a technical fault.
Plz help I have been thru almost any post! It is a great peace (even more since Call of Duty 2 for ppc is out  ) and I don’t want to get rid of it.

Do you have warranty, is it a refurbished unit, what do you use it for mainly?
If you have warranty report problem and replace.

Does it work OK ?
If so you could turn it on and see what programs are running.
Otherwise you could always try a hard reset.

Maybe a third party app like Battery pack pro that easily lets you close all background apps would help. You need to try "full power off" to see if your battery is allright.

Do you have any app configured to automatically check for updates? This includes checking for new email as well.

Good point, GiGi, post your rom version and software you are using, that might help?

I have rom A05, clean install (many hard resets) no soft running (background, foreground; no detectors, indicators whatsoever), no soft has option for updating, syncing or checking enyth. enabled, even tried BT on. bottom line - battery is drained even when pda is off (with the button in the middle) from 71% to 45% in ~45min when standby (BT on). Battery was purchased brand new, so:
1) does anyone has an idea what can be causing this power leak?
2) Is it worth bringing over to workshop?
3) Is there really no answer from Dell on this or smth like that?
4) Any suggestions? :)

How long ago did you purchase the battery? If it's still under warranty you could replace it and see if that makes a difference, if you are not running any software at all, it could be a hardware issue with ax, some sort of short, but try replacing the battery first, can you tale it somewhere and have it tested even?

Battery is half a month at max. Pda has mostly all that time been in cradle. I have axims original battery as well - no difference - they both drain the same. I think there is not much left for me as to try to test and repair it than :(

I have no experience with X50 or wm 2003, so ignore me if this is irrelivant.

It could be Active sync starting up all the time. This thread talk about the problem and how to fix it on X51v. There may be a similar issue for x50.

I know this enters the realms of urban myth but when you originally charged ax did you do it with ax off and for an extended period of time[more than you would usually charge ax for a full charge]. Batteries are funny critters, try a test but if you are having a problem with more than one battery it seems to point to a problem with ax itself

I already contacted company that deals with Dells production, I’m bringing my ax over tomorrow (will report). Funny thing jet about charging – it seems to me that it won’t charge when in cradle in ON state, i.e. power indicator (ctrl panel) is showing charge process but charge meter just doesn’t seem to have grown when ax taken out.

p.s.
considering all my ax odds I tend to agree the theory of short circuit

The ax won't charge in the cradle via USB when turned on. You need to have the AC adapter connected as well.

Should charge when ax off though. Power switch RED.

On USB there is just enough charge to run ax, and maintain battery, it also depends what you are running at the time[apps]
