x50v WM5 Battery Probs?

Hi,

I have been using my PDA recently mainly for playing music...I normally use Mortplayer with the screen off for about 30mins in the morning & then 30mins on the way home. Its then switched off until the following morning, I then have not been able to switch back on as if the battery has died....Surely the battery should last dramatically longer than this, especially since it is switched off for most of the day?

Any guidance would be appreciated.

Regards

Guys, I would like to bump this to see if anyone else is having similar problems or has any recommendations

for further information....I am running Windows Mobile 5..A02....Latest update from Dell....

There is nothing else on my PDA at the moment apart from the media player and the base OS...

Problem only seems to have arisen since upgrading to Windows Mobile 5 from 2003se...

Is it something to do with the way memory is now managed?

I am not 100% sure I am turning it off properly....I just hit the power button after use and turn back on later that day....

Any guidance would be appreciated....Sorry for being a pest

I'm not sure about the X50 version of wm5 but you may need to do the Fake server trick to stop active sync running all the time.

Yes, you do need the fake server hack or Activesync will continually respawn and dramatically shorten battery life. Make sure that you use something like Magicbutton to shut down Activesync when you're finished as well. This has worked perfectly for me since the A02 upgrade.

I had a similar problem, first when I upgraded from 2003 to WM5, and then when I upgraded to A02. In both cases, reinstalling the upgrade fixed it. My original upgrade to A02 left my Axim working rather buggy. It ran very slow. The backlight would reset to 3 seconds every time I turned it off and the batteries would drain in a single day. When I tried to turn it on, I would be greeted with a message that the Axim had suffered a memory error and needed to be reset. I had to recharge it before I could even get it to reset.

First make sure you have a problem.

I use the lock switch when mine is off so it can't accidentally get turned on. It lives in a backpack pocket and the way the softshell case is made, it will turn on if I set the bag down the wrong way. That will drain the battery.

Recharge it. Kill all running software by using the MEMORY application in the SETTINGS group. Turn it off with the power switch. Lock it with the switch on the left side. Then let it sit in a place where you know it won't be disturbed. If the battery still goes dead quickly, try reinstalling the A02 ROM.

I reran the A02 upgrade last week and it has been working great ever since. I just reran it right over the previous A02 installation.

I would suggest that you do it plugged in to filtered power. I may have had troubles because my power adapter was plugged straight into the wall. A UPS or a power conditioning surge protector should work fine. Not all power strips offer this feature, so make sure yours does. Power transients during a ROM install can really mess things up. I don't know that it caused my problem, but it could have.
