Repeated memory errors

Please can anyone help me before I go mad!

I have a X50v running Windows 2003SE rom A05.

I have completed a hard reset and not installed any applications. I have removed SD and CF cards.

I have purchased 2 new batteries and I get the same results. I have left the x50v on charge for 1 day to several days to make sure everything is fully charged.

After a period between 1 to 15 mins of operation the x50v turns itself off. When switched on I get the "Memory error has been detected. Press [Calender] to correct the error......" I reboot and after 1 to 15 mins the same happens.

If I keep checking the battery meters I can see that the main battery is greater than 90%. Eventually the backup battery goes "Low" and the number of memory faults increases exponentially.

"Conclusions"

If the Axim turns itself off with a memory error then that must mean the main battery is faulty - but I've tried 2 different batteries and it does hold its charge

If the backup battery seems to eventually go low and the number of memory errors goes up:

1) The main battery has failed and the backup is being drained?
2) If the main battery is keeping its charge then why would the backup battery be used? Does the backup battery draw power from the main battery to charge?
3) If the backup battery has failed then I wouldn't expect the device to switch itself off, only lose all settings if the main battery was removed.

I live in the UK so sending the X50v to pdasmart for repair is pricey....

HELP.

I am by no means an expert, but could you reload the WM2003SE image using the procedure laid out by user domme? I got a similar error where the device wouldn't even boot at all. I reloaded a new 2003 image and now the x50 works fine. That would be the one suggestion I would make. It doesn't cost any money if you already have an SD card. There are several places listed that have images you can download. I would give that a try.

I agree with Fish. I have had this problem twice in the past and reloading the ROM fixed it in both cases.

Make sure you are plugged into a power conditioner. Wall power is very dirty and power transitions during the ROM installation can really screw things up.

You may have to bite the bullet and talk with Dell.

If the backup battery and main battery do charge, then I presume the electrical connections are there?

I now think that all the evidence points to the backup battery, which I I'll probably replace now. Where is the best place to get a replacement? I'm based in the UK, so buying from PDASmart is not a cheap option. (but better than not having an Axim at all!)

I have spoken to Dell. They politely sent me an email that basically said - go away we're not interested. Then started to wibble on about support for non Axim product! Patronising rubbish.

Thank you for your continued help!

I don't know exactly where's the best place in UK,coz I'm not in UK. But, generally you can buy coin battery which have same type then you can change it by yourself-it's easy, but you must have tools :)
or maybe you can goto computer repair store then you can ask them whether they can service pda or not.hope can help

I thought that the backup "battery" was actually a capacitor? What sort of battery is it and where did you find one? Is there a part number for it?
