Hello! I need help! Axim connects but not connects!

Hello,

Recently I've been experiencing some problems with my axim x50v - windows 2003 SE. When I place my axim over the cradle, it makes the usual sound, but the status in my activesync 3.8 stay as "connecting" all over the time.
I've tried upgrading to active sync 4.2 and 4.5, but in either way I was able to connect.
I've hard booted my axim, erased all that was in its memory, but the problem continues!
I've already tried deactivating anti-viruses and firewalls, but nothing is working!
Recently I've upgraded my xp to SP01 and installed a new nokia software and a new firewall!
What am I supposed to do?
I would be really glad if someone helped me!

Thanks!

The usual suspects (excluding the ones you mention) are:
  • Change the USB connection to a new (primary) port
  • Check the pins on the Axim's connection slot (bent or damaged pins are problematic)
  • Make sure that both devices have sufficient memory (particularly if your pc is a laptop)
  • Upgrade any firmware or BIOS from your manufacturer's site (P'n'P devices will benefit!)
  • Make sure that the Regional Settings on both devices are correct
Oh, and welcome to Aximsite

I'm assuming it worked fine, before you installed the firewall.. If so, and it stopped working AFTER installing the firewall, I'd still think that's the problem. You may have "Disabled" it, but perhaps not completely. I remember, at one point I had McAfee firewall (Version 5 or 6, I forget), and even though I "disabled it", there was still some anti-worm process running that prevented certain services from working. I got rid of it, and installed Zonelabs firewall, and all was well.

Anyway, my point: Although maybe drastic, try Un-installing the firewall software completely, and try it again. If it works you'll know that's the problem.

Good luck.

I've got the same problem. I completly uninstalled my Norton program and instead of the messages from the trouble shooter saying its a firewall problem or a connection problem, it says there is no problem but still wont sync. Got a new cable too. No change. Downloaded activesync onto a differnt computer and have the same problem. There a at least a couple other people with the same symptoms I have. This just started recently with no known changes in my computer or Axim and after many successful syncs in the past.
Conspiracy from Dell??Microsoft??Both???

Jam269 makes a good point here :approve: Some AV and Firewalls can be a nightmare to disable or remove. My Inspiron came pre-loaded with McAfee bloatware that required a download from McAfee to remove! Just uninstalling from the Control Panel may not remove the program completely.

Notwithstanding the problems, I don't recommend running your system without protection for extended periods ~ stay safe!

Does the "found new hardware" pop up. Does it "install" the drivers for it?
If not look it up @ support.dell.com
