Well, booted laptop this morning, doing some miantenance, and a communications error with the Axim. So I pulled it from the cradle, as usual, and plugged it back in after a few minutes to reset it.
Screen flickered and went out. Rebooted, tried Safe Mode, screen flickered a second with flashing icon, then blank.
Too it out of the Sena case, and the battery door popped open. Odd. Have a Mugen Power extended battery in there. Close inspection to the battery shows it is slightly bulged on both sides. Never noticed that is was like that before, but its been in the Sena case for over a year.
Tried installing the other batteries. Nothing. I stick the Axim in the cradle, I get the Orange light icon, but it won't start.
59 days remaining of the complete care package from Dell. Tried to reach their online support, but says all agents are occupied (probably asleep).
Here's hoping my Axim gets repaired/replaced. Not sure I want the X51v, but this little PDA has been faithful and gathered my daily weather reports and had alarms to wake me for college classes. Now I have nothing but an orange light.

Do you have WM5 installed? If not, leave the battery out for a few hours and then try again. You can power it directly through the AC adapter (plugged into the back of the cradle) instead of via the cradle. Don't forget you need the charger adapter as well to make it fit. Also, make sure your lock switch isn't on.
Dell got the replacement here today, even though the shipper information said th device would be here by the end of the month. Got the old defective model ready to ship back.
They just sent the Axim X50v minus pointer, battery, battery cover, and any accessories. Peeled off the screen protector, and hoping it can be washed and placed on the replacement.
Stuck in both the CF & SD cards, fired it up, aligned the screen, and hopped to File Explorer to the Backups folder. SPB Backup did a fantastic job in restoring my PDA back to it's last backup. Stuck the PDA in the cradle, and ActiveSync fired right up and did its thing. Acted just like my original PDA.
Kudo's SPB! First time having to rely on a backup, and no issues (other then the silly log file and temporary internet folder for pocket internet explorer).
It is a good feeling to know one's backup really works when you lose your handheld. Back up and running under three minutes!!! :approve:
How long does it usually take to recharge the built-in battery? I got the low battery warning when installing into the cradle, and shortly after the main extended battery was recharged as well.
Called up the Power setting, and says the Backup Battery is Low.
WiFi works, don't have any bluetooth around other then the headset for my cell phone, so won't be worried about that. Guess the only thing left to do is extend my warranty in the next 58 days in case this should happen again.
BTW, is it me, or has Dell not advertised their Axims recently?
I haven't seen one advertisement since after the mad rush of the X51 series. I'll have to visit their website again to see what's up.

Dell has cancelled the Axim series. The backup battery takes a little while to charge. It's not really a battery, it's a capacitor, but the function is the same.
Guess renewing the warranty is prudent. Makes one wonder when Dell will no longer be offering replacements...
I did have one trouble area with SPB Backup that I seen so far. SPB Time wasn't fully functional. Did have to reinstall the program, which was easy, although have to reset the alarm tones now. (Woke up this morning to an ancient telephone ringing alarm.)

Reason: additional notes to the restore
Well... SPB Backup did okay for a while. Then started noticing errors in programs or that they were installed but couldn't run them. Got tired of having to reinstall, so just wiped everything, rest the device, and will stick everything back in from scratch.
