I don't think it's at all possible to make SDHC cards work in Axims. The Axim hardware doesn’t support SDHC. However SDHC cards do work in a lot of digital cameras so if you have a camera you can use the SD card in your camera. Or you might be able to sell it and buy a 4GB none HC SD card.
It's a protocol problem, not a hardware problem. That's why wm6 supports SDHC on x50v hardware. Microsoft||Dell could provide a patch, but they won't because then you won't need to give them $$$ for a new device.
yes. but it is not allowed here. go to the xda-developers.
He's not talking about an illegal ROM here, just an SDHC card (or are you referring to the WM6 solution?). And no, the standard SDHC cards are not compatible with the Axim. You can find good 4GB SD (no HC) cards that work well, however. Perhaps you could set up an exchange.
It's been verified that WM6 on X50v/X51v can read SDHC. My question is this: can you take the files from the hacked rom, make a driver, and install it in the legal rom? all it is is a few DLLs and some registry entries, right?

Yes, it's a matter of dll's and possible registry keys. And it is illegal. If you want to use software that you can legally dissect and modify, then use Ubuntu.

Acctually, I prefer Kubuntu - uses KDE instead of Gnome; much mroe powerful manager.
Also, AFAIK, REgistry tweaking and Driver-coding are perfectly legal. Granted you would need an illegal rom to get the settings, but the driver you create should be legal (I say should, though I've NEVER seen a case oftherwise, but cant make any 100% promises that some drivers are protected)
And K/ubunto cant run on the Axim line, Familiar can, on some devices and with varying levels of functionality, but not Ubuntu (AFAIK)

Same thing, Ash, just apt-get the KDE desktop/packages from Ubuntu (or the Gnome from Kubuntu) and you have a hybrid of both.
As for the XScale processor, there is a kernel for it, and Ubuntu is getting some mobility (touchscreen, etc) apps, so it's not unreasonable to hope for a PPC version in the future. You probably will get the Xfce desktop; it's lighter. I'm not completely up on all versions of Linux, so I don't know what desktop manager runs on other Linux PDAs.
IIRC the free one is familiar (cute joke imo) but there is also a pay linux and the sharp zaurus, which idk what runs...
handhelds.org is porting familiar to lots of systems, last I checked though, the only really powerful device they'd completed was the ipaq hx4700
