X50V Does not recognize battery

After a little dunk in water some time ago, this X50V does not recognize the battery in the slot.

I at first bought a replacement battery, but it's the same effect. When it is on the cradle, the Power->Main battery reads "AC Only" and the light is green.

When off the cradle, Main battery reads "None" with both the original and replacement battery, and the light goes red. Of course, it doesn't run for very long either as it's running off the backup bat. Putting it back on the cradle will turn the light back green after a minute or two.

I've tried the diagnostic mode - which evidently doesn't check the power systems and a couple hard resets, yada yada... to no effect. Otherwise the unit works perfectly - wireless, bluetooth, screen, etc...

Is there any way to fix it myself (like maybe something's built up somewhere on the inside or something)? Probably just going to chuck it, if I have to spend $100+ and send it away, etc... but I sure hope I don't have to...

Model is Dell Axim X50v with A03 Rom w/Wireless/Bluetooth...

Any help is appreciated - thanks...

Hi - yes, I've done hard resets, no effect unfortunately...

Also another update, the battery seems to charge and run the Axim for a while, but Axim still reports no battery. Will turn on if you turn on cradle and remove and will stay on. Turn off for not too long and it will turn on again, but if off too long it won't turn on again unless jump started on cradle.

Also, the red light stays on on the time, and occasionally, it want to hard reset(?) itself when I turn it on (Push contacts for this or message for that)...

Would be nice to get this working normally as it's a nice unit.

I tried to update the Rom from A03 to A05 but the updater said I couldn't update because the battery was less than 40%!! WTF - that shouldn't matter at all as the thing has to be on the cradle anyway when updating... sigh - I will never understand MS...

So I can't tell really if this is a software problem or a hardware problem (like I said unit works fine otherwise than incorrectly reporting existence of batter level)...

Any other thoughts are appreciated...

I'm having the same problem with an X50v. Starts in the cradle, will run for several hours on a fully charged battery but always says that the main battery has 0% charge and backup battery is normal. Did you ever figure this out?

This might not have anything to do with your problem, but I had low battery notifications from problems with the bsttery door/lock switch. I had a full charge and it would show very low battery warnings. How bad was the dunk in the water. I dunno if you are up to it, or if its a great idea, but you could open up the unit and try to clean up some of the surface corrosion, maybe that would help out some?
