I have encountered a strange problem these last few weeks. I'm rotating between two batteries, one is always left charging in the cradle. Recently my axim does not recognise that a fully charged battery has been inserted. Let's say I start out with battery A, use the axim and drain the battery downto 21% and then exchange it for the fresh battery B from the cradle. The axim claims that this one too is at 21%
Things I've tried:
- Chargin both batteries to 100% in the Axim
- Countless soft-resets and quite a few hard ones.
- Two different WM2003se ROM's
- WM5
This problem still persists, and the amount of installed programs or running with/without memory cards does not seem to make any difference.
Current setup:
Axim X50v (purchased with two batteries in July 2005)
WM2003SE A05
Lexar Premiun 2GB SD card
SanDisk UltraII 4GB CF card
If I had any hair, I'd pull it out over his problem! Any ideas out there? Is my Axim dying? Are my batteries ready for the bin? Any help or other input appreciated :)
Have you soft reset? If so, I'll bet your battery is not seating. Take a standard size post-it, fold it into quarters, and put it on top of the battery before you put the battery cover back on.

As i mentioned I have tried soft resets but to no avail. The battery not seated? It powers the unit ok, so I think it's properly seated. Could a loose battery be the reason?
What program are you using to tell you the battery's charge? When I swap batteries, the reading is the same as the old one until I plug it unto the cradle. It'll show charging for a munite or two. Then it shows fully charged.
You may want to do a search in the forums. I think there was something about this awhile ago.
The reading is the same both in the internal meter (settings->system->power) and an today screen-based one, like SPB PocketPlus or SBSH iLauncher.
It' s really annoying, especially when I don't have access to a cradle (when travelling etc). I can leave home with two batteries fully charged to 100%, use battery A down to 30% and replace it for a fresh battery B. This also shows 30% power left and continues to count down to 10-15% and then gives me the usual warnings about losing data if I don't replace or charge the battery.
I've really tried searching the forums and I've found a lot of battery related problems, but none quite like this.
I've had this before, if I've swapped batteries when one has been very low. a quick zap from a charger usually solved it.
Sorry I couldn't be more helpful, but I then got an extended battery and thus didn't have the need to swap

I guess I don't have the problem because I'm usually plugged into the cradle (work & home), my car charger and the A/C adapter when I'm travelling. :)
I can see it would be a pain if you don't have access to a charger and you need to swap batteries.
I'm about to travel to Europe so I definetely wont have access to a charger while I am there.
I have heard the way to fix it is, instead of swapping the batteries straight away when you take out the dead one wait a few minutes 2 - 5mins and then put the new one in...
I'm still waiting for mine to drain before I can see if this actually works.

If you are going to do that, make sure your backup battery is up to scratch.
for those of you that have tried this have you noticed that your clock changes to 12:00 6/30/05? THis is what happened when I tried. Several other posts that I have read indicate this is due to a dead backup battery (actually a supercap). It shows normal when you open the battery controls but in fact it has NO stamina and drains before the fully charged battery can be installed. THis is why you are presented with the hard reset/soft reset options. There is a post that discusses in full detail with pics how to change this.
For those that state they have changed the battery while in the cradle, I am curious. When my Axim is in its crsadle the door latch isn't accessible. It is covered by the cradle base.
