My problem is with my 2 years old Dell Axim x50v pocket pc. Somehow 2 months ago it started not woking. It only works when it is plugged into power either credle or car kit.
I haven't used it for a long time, I think it stayed in the car ver cold and hot. There might be something related with this. When it is on the power power light is blinking from green to orange. I left it on the power for a long time. Its buttery %100 and backup buttary is normal. But If I take the power away screen goes off to black and pda doesn't come again until I plug it to power. Then it comes with set up screen. This is the general description of my x50v problem. I am suspicious it is a hardware problem since both batteries look ok but they do not take effect when I remove it from power.
I have been looking on the internet for this issue however I could not find any similar case and solution. My hope this this web-site. Even if you had similar problem and could not solve it, you can just share with me.
Regards
Note:I tried soft+hard reset stuff and didn't work. I also replaced my backup battery inside the device. None of them solved the problem. It works only when it is on the power and power light is blinking (green-orange-green) I know it is a notification but what ?
I think I have the same problem.
- when put on charge the on button alternates green and amber.
- the battery seems to run down really quickly. It'll say 100%, turn unit off and then back on and it will be 9%.
- I've swapped batteries, same problem.
- I've soft reset, same problem.
- I've hard reset, still the same.
I have no fix at the moment and the alternating green/amber on button is not in the manual.
I know its not good for lithium ion batteries to be exposed to the extremes. I try to keep mine away from anything thats above 100. Also, what is probably even worse, is having it freeze, depending on where u live.
If u live in an area that gets cold enough, and it freezes there, that could be your problem. U may just have a ruined battery.
If u want to start using this thing again with a battey, youll probably have to buy a new one. And make sure you keep it above freezing.

In my case it isn't extremes in temperature that are the problem.
When not charging it goes through 3% of power per minute. If it is a battery problem it has happened to two batteries made two years ago (one in China, one in Korea) one was used constantly and the second stored in the box. I'm more inclined to blame the unit than batteries. When being charged from mains the on button blinks amber/green. I briefly had it charging (solid amber) but it lasted a minute before reverting to the amber/green blink. It's almost like its hung up on giving a message alert while charging but it has been hard reset with nothing in it.
Does the unit give the battery a memory - is that why it treats either battery the same?
It is currently charging with the on button solid amber, I dare not touch it.
It's been a repeated hard reset - pull battery out - wait a few minutes - replace battery - %$#^& green/amber blink - try again. I don't have much faith in it being fixed - I'll let you know.
I've found that the unit needs to be squeezed across the battery to get it to charge. I've tried packing the battery with paper to make it thicker but this is not enough. It probably has a poor connection inside.
I am having exactly the same problem. I thought it was a battery issue, and bought a new battery. Didn't help. When plugged into cradle or car charger, it shows 100% powered almost immediately. Once disconnected from the charger, the battery quickly runs down, even the brand new battery. I've tried resets. I've tried to close out programs. Nothing helps. :realmad:
Axim only works when in cradle... have a possible fix
OK ... so the same thing happened to me last week. I freaked I have all my data on this thing. When I put it in the cradle the screen would come on but I could not use any of the touch screen functions .. I was able to do a backup to my computer. Next tried a hard reset ... but the process involves you confirming using a key on the bottom of the unit and it didn't work... couldn't turn it off... either.. had to remove the battery. I made an appointment at a repair depot because the folks at Dell said .. sorry can't help you. This pissed me off big time.. then I remembered... there is a lock switch on the side of the unit .. which I have never used.. sure enough it was in the lock position... I moved it back to unlock and FANTASTIC it worked. Then I realized I had done a hard reboot ... so I tried to load my backup and I keep getting the message that it was made with a different mobile device and can't read it... so I have used a backup from a SD card from a year ago... better than nothing I guess. So before you do all the stuff I did .. check the lock switch on the side of th e unit.
I have exactly the problem you described. Light blinks orange and green, battery drains a few % PER MINUTE. Tried newer battery from another Axim and had the same problem. I'm tearing my hair out over this!!
I even opened the axim and cleaned the dirt out but it didn't help...
When this happened to me I fixed it by scratching with my nail (or you could use a toothbrush) the contacts between the battery and the axim, this fixed it inmediately... try it and let me know how it went!
Had similar situation with some new batteries off of eBay. One worked and the other did not. In looking closely at the my original battery and the one that worked, I could see that the alternating green / orange battery's contact area was faulty and not as "tall" as the original. So I was just getting partial contact.
Other's experiencing problems with existing batteries may need to clean the contacts of both the Axim and the offending battery.
