Hi
I bought a X50v on ebay and its so so so slow.
It didnt come with any software and as I understand it has Windows Mobile 6 installed.
Should I install another operating system? Is so which one, where can I get it, will it significantly improve the device speed, or should I just give up and smash it into little pieces?

well first off welcome to the site. the x50v was designed only for 2003se and wm5 but some have put WM6 on there unit. Wm6 on the x50v is still in "beta" but if you want to talk about it more or get help you should go to XDA developers website because talking about illegal roms is NOT allowed on this site. Good Luck. If anything just to a hard reset on the device maybe that might work just a thought =]

I'd try downloading the utility to return the X50v from WM5 to 2003se available for download from Dell. If you can get it back to 2003 you'll have a very usable unit. Make sure that it's actually running WM6, and not WM5 A01. If it is running the WM5 A01 you can always update it to A02 with the files from Dell, or A03 with the files from XDA's site. Don't toss it, unless you're tossing it my way.

well, i'm using the WM6 A02 on my x50v and i love it! bluetooth sync works, wlan (secured) works, and nearly everything elese works.

the only strange happenings (which were in WM5 aswell!) :
the all-known filesys-problem when syncing via cradle. (happens sometimes)
the pda doesnt always want to start connect/sync when put in cradle. (fixed by then using bluetooth sync instead, or soft-reset in cradle)

so, you may check, which rom-version you have (in /Settings/System/System Information) and maybe upgrade to A02-WM6 (A03 is also available, but it's beta).
And be sure to activate the X50v-WM5-Hacks/Tricks/Registry-Edits (the "tweaks you need"-thread herearound). most of these edits will help you improve performance.
And if you encounter hangings or performance-break, when in use without cradle (eg playing music/movies or playing games), then make sure, that ActiveSync has shut down. (in system/memory/running programs/), because the AS-Service simetimes remains open, after sync and steals performance).
