Fragile X50V - tapping battery area causes "memory error"
Hi guys,
I've been having a problem with my x50v.
What happens is, sometimes, if the back of the unit gets tapped at all....even something light, whether in it's rhinoskin alum case or not, it immediately shows the "a memory error has occurred" screen and it has to reboot.....it is susceptible to this problem until I take the battery out and put it back in...then it seems resistant to taps.....for a while. Eventually, it'll happen again.
I'm using the original batteries because the newer generic batteries I'd bought make the problem worse....it's almost like it can't be fixed by removing it and putting it back in when I use the newer ones....
it's really annoying because I find myself really babying my axim....like it's made of glass....otherwise it'll freeze and reboot while I'm listening to my mp3s.....
it must have something to do with the battery or the battery door......because a tap to the upper part of the axim doesn't do it....only a tap on the battery door when it's in or out of the case, and a squeeze on the bottom half of the front when in the case does it.........sometimes.
I was running WM5 but got fed up with it so I went back to 2003.....but no difference in this problem.
Also, when I first bought the unit (used) it didn't do this....
I've got a similar problem. I have an x51v, and when I use my non-original, ebay-sourced, China-manufactured battery, sometimes the slightest tap on the battery casing causes the unit to completely lose power and, with prodding, soft reset. OK, so my problem is with the non-original battery, so not as bad as yours, but it's probably a similar sort of thing. I'm assuming it's to do with the battery contact.
I try to avoid using that battery if possible! (Pity the battery life sucks.)
My Axim bit the dust over (apparently) 3-rd party batteries. I was using them with no particular problem for about a year then I bought another one. Shortly after that the device went into start-up (Tap here to erase all memory, here to continue) every time I changed the battery. Worse ... the unit no longer could tell that the battery was swapped. It got down to 19% then I put a fresh battery in it and it still thought it only had 19%. Eventually (after a hard reset) it "saw" a fresh battery - but then it would not move off that charge level at all either. Still did the memory reset every time I changed battery. Oh well ... it was 3-years-old. Bought an HP to replace it - but I think the thing died before it's time.
I seem to remember reading somewhere that you could put a slim bit of card between the battery and the cover to help push the battery in a bit tighter.
No idea if it works, never had this problem myself.
