X50v digitizer foibles!
Hi:
My Axim X50v digitizer was quite scratched-up (I beat the heck out of it!), so I decided to purchase one of those $10 Ebay units, that ships from Hong Kong.
Well, it physically fit-onto the Axim, but the ribbon cable didn't lay exactly the way it should... but it did indeed fit into the connector with a slight bulge in the ribbon, and the seller said it'd work with the X50v.....
OK - I (partially) re-assemble it, (left the front piece off) replaced the battery and fired-it-up... The power light flickered bright blue for a flash... then nothing (my reaction = "Ewwww!").
I re-seated the ribbon cable for the digitizer, and then it fired-up properly, but the digitizer wouldn't work at all.
I'm now quite certain that the digitizer I purchased was not made for my Axim X50v! Continuing, I bit the bullet and bought the $85 dollar PDASmart X50v digitizer, which fit perfectly... and again, the Axim fired-up fine, but the digitizer still won't work.
So my question... is it possible that the the cheap digitizer I bought somehow fried a portion of the mainboard? Has anyone had this happen to them??? Am I perhaps missing something simple here???? I'm certain the lock is off, I've tried soft/hard boots to no avail. I've replaced digitizers successfully before (I owned a Clie way back)... so I'm certain that I didn't frag the new digitizer whilst installing it.
Any thoughts or suggestions (aside from giving myself a giant dope-slap for cheezing-out on the digitizer in the 1st. place!!) would be GREATLY appreciated!!
I miss my Axim - feeling NUDE without it!!!!! :-(
