connecting to Linksys Wireless G Router

My old router died so today I installed the Linksys WRT54G Wireless-G Broadband Router.

Now I can't get my Axim to connect. Help please.

The first problem you may have is,
the router needs to be set to Mixed Mode.

Axims are only able to connect to b wifi.
If your router is set to g only then it wont connect.

Try that first.

Can you tell me how to change it to mixed mode? I have not seen that option.

I'm sorry, I'm unfamiliar with the setting structure of that router.

Hi Sandra. I just hooked up a Linksys Wireless-G router 2 days ago. Box is correct, it has to be set to mixed mode. To do this you need to log into your router. Read the instruction manual for step by step instructions. To start you have to Open Internet Explorer and in the address bar put in the default IP address, then go from there. Its all in the instruction manual.

Your Axim also MUST HAVE the same information that the Wireless Connection has (Password etc) . I'll keep an eye on this thread if you need any more help

I'm reading the user manual and logged into my router. It is set to mixed and I'm lost.

One thing, make sure you save any changes BEFORE YOU CHANGE THE PAGE, if you change something then switch pages, it won't save. You can also try turning off your wireless security (Saving afterwards of course) then try connecting that way.

I think i had to soft reset my Axim X51 after I made changes to my router before it would detect it, but I have an external SD WLAN card.

Just relax and read through the manual, it outlines what to do. Just remember that the (Axim?) has to have the same wireless settings as the router (Network Name, Authentication, Data Encryption, Network Key)

I'm trying to think of what else to say.......I've got my Axim Authentication set to WPA-PSK - Data Encryption TKIP - And my Network Key entered (Same info as on my router)

Make sure the little WLAN light on the front of the router is on.....

Hope something here helps....got any specific questions, fire them off...

I do see that the Dell says Authentication WPA and Data Encryption is TKIP.

Logged into the router it says WPA Personal and Data Encryption is TKIP.

Does this help?

I have not found a place to enter the Router password on the Axim yet.

Ok, I've got my Dell set exactly like that. What exactly is the network key? Where do I find it. Is that the same as the WPA shared key?

I should mention that I am great at following exact instructions, but I'm pretty well illiterate trying to read the user's guide and figure it out.

Set the shared key to whatever you want and put that same thing as the network key, see if that works. Did you try just disabling the wireless security and seeing if you can connect? I had to do that, and I found out it was my Axim that was the problem. I enabled security after I got my axim working.

And your doing fine. I find most people get all worked up, and want to smash the computer, and that hinders things even more. Just relax, take a break if you need one and come back to it later. :) We'll get it working

I disabled my security and just like you, my Axim is the problem. It won't connect at all. I pulled out my Axim manual.

Do you remember what you did to fix that? I'll go back to the security issue.

I just purchased the WRT54GS myself. I couldn't get the WPA security mode to work with my Axim. I finally changed to the WEP security mode.

Works great now. I do want to get mine changed over, but, I might suggest you use the WEP mode to get things working.

Look at the Check these first part of the Troubleshooting section of the WiFi Guide.
