Aximsitex50icon x50 Bricked

OK, so I followed a tutorial on the 'net (I think it was from this site) to create a bootable nb0 to flash my bootloader and another nb0 to upgrade my x50 from 2003se to windows mobile 5.

I used the img file found on the Dell Upgrade CD for x50 to create it, so first question, was this a deadly mistake?

So I manage to create the bootloader and put it on the SD, I then use the SD Bootloader trick (Power, Wireless, Reset) and began the bootloader upgrade.

The PDA told me of my success and asked me to hard reset, so I ignored it and tried to get back into the SD Bootloader (as the tutorial told me) but my PDA just shut off (Full Black Screen) and that was the last I saw of life on the device, obviously, I've had time to think about how I bricked the PDA but I think it was because of a corrupt bootloader (perhaps a noob mistake).

It doesn't pain me to lose the PDA as I hadn't touched it in almost 1 year since I managed to use my PSP, Laptop and iPod respectively to replace it (don't ask how) but I'd love to see it flicker back into life if anyone has any suggestions?

I can't get into the SD Bootloader nor the Diagnostics Mode but the orange power light does appear when i plug it into the AC.

Just before you ask, I didn't use the CD properly as I lost my USB cable a while back when I started using Bluetooth syncing, any help, comments, taunts are appreciated.

Thanks in advance, Tom.

P.s. I'm thinking perhaps if I drain the backup battery (leave the PDA without a battery for a while) I might be able to get some life out of it, if I do I'll post an update.

I'd suggest getting a usb cable. If I remember right, we can't sync via BT after one of the ROM upgrades. :(

Hopefully, leaving the battery out for a long time will clear things up. :)

PS - Welcome to Aximsite. :approve:

A short web search and a few emails later and I've found a guy in Leicester (UK) who is willing to try and fix it, he says he's going to jtag it, the site which he runs is (shameless plug) iPAQ Repair and Parts :: ipaq spare parts replacement battery HP pocket pc repairs ipaq screen repair Compaq spare batteries not only does he fix axims he fixes iPaqs, PSPs, even iPhones, so I'm going to send the PDA away to him and see if he can actually fix it, hopefully he can!

It's been a while, but today I received a brand new pda, in my old pda's case! The exterior is my original x50 but inside is now a tricked out x51 with wifi, 128mb ram and what seems to be a new battery! Absolutely chuffed it worked, "repairs" cost 40 GBP and I'm typing this message on my x50/51 hybrid right now!
So anyone who lands into the same trap as me of bricking a pda, iPaqRepair seems to be the best place.

Are you sure it's a X50? If so, where did you get the hardware upgrade done? I've been looking for a while for someone who can do ram upgrades on a X50.

Well, the case is mine and that was/is definitely an x50 (x50 logo on front of case, used to be recognized as an x50 by the OS) but now it has Wm5 installed on it and when I tap on System Information it is being recognized as an X51, it has WiFi, which it never had before, a new battery (probably to cope with the new OS and WiFi) and I'm still discovering stuff now! When I open up the PDA's battery compartment it looks like the guy that did it (ipaqrepair.co.uk) completed gutted the machine, leaving only the touchscreen and case intact, as it has a new serial number and is marked as a Dell Axim x51 (I think its a mid whereas it used to be an x50 Low).

He marked on the sheet that came with the PDA when it was repaired that he just performed a ROM Recovery, but it looks like he just performed an Axim transplant!

So, to answer your question, yes, it does look like a total hardware upgrade, and was performed by a man called Nathan found at iPaqRepair.co.uk
