HELP - random soft / hard resets!

I have Dell Axim X50v with Windows Mobile 2003 SE

I find the device to at times spontaneously reboot or report a memory error and do a hard reset! This was very often (1x a week) until I reinforced the battery on the back (by jamming a paper to have it sit in the slot very very firmly)

I feel that this [only in part] remedied the problem... as I still get them...

now it's a more rare occurrence (1x / 3 months), but still feels very unsafe to keep important data in it...

As I still get soft resets once in a while (1x / 3 months)

and a hard reset - found it to report a "memory error" and I needed to do a hard reset :(

(because of this problem I have resorted to using the device strictly as a media player (of .avi and .mp3 files...) as I just install TCPMP and it's back to normal...)

Does anyone know what I can do to address this issue?

Maybe hardware fix or some software fix? OS upgrade?

Thank you so much...

It doesn't sound like the battery cover is fully latched. It sounds like your AX "thinks" it's battery is low and the memory fills up causing the AX to reset.

Also, you can put files on an SD or CF card. They won't be erased with a soft or hard reset. Also, a good backup program (Spb & Sprite) might help keep you from losing internal files.

BTW: The Built-in-Storage content remains intact even after a soft AND hard reset
