screen wont come on but light flashes

My x50v is suddenly acting odd. The screen will not come on but the top light is flashing. When I do a soft reboot the dell logo comes up and then the screen flashes and goes blank.

Help

Hi and welcome to Aximsite. Lots of good info and ppl here.

A few things you can try:
1. Make sure the battery is fully charged. (Flashing yellow means the battery is low)
2. Press and hold the power button
3. Press POWER + RECORD buttons at a time

If one of these don't bring the display back, you may need to do a hard reset. (last resort) :(

Hope this helps. :)

Thanks.

Did all those things you said excepyt for hard reset which I wish to leave until I get home as I have not synched for a week and will loose appointments.

Interestingly, I swapped the battery and now the orange light is constantly on (charging) but pressing the reset button at back does not even get dell splash screen up.

The only extra software I have on here is Pocket informant and TomTom 6.

How are you going to sync if you can get a display?

If you can sync, make sure to do a backup thru AS before doing a hard reset.

Big Smile noob error

Well I solved the problem - the solution being somewhat embarrassing. You see I left one vital piece of info out which at the time I did not even consider important so let there be a lesson there.

I am a very competent PC user, hand build my own machines, programme VBA, hack etc etc. I only put that in not to show off but to illustrate that even with all that so called knowledge occasionally there really is a lapse of brain power.

You see the back to the battery case had fallen off in my bag. I had not bothered to look for it as the PPC was just sitting on my desk at work. It had never dawned on me that would be a problem (as I have never read the manual.) So, of course, the machine was in sleep mode.

Once I arrived home I put the back on and lo and behold it worked. Boy did I feel foolish!!!!

Reminds me of the time when I had walked away from my PC only to come back and find it off. half an hour of opening the case, wobbling wires and cussing led to teh discovery that my wife had unplugged it so she could do the ironing!!!! :rolling:
