I think I finally fried it
Hello everyone,

I've been a user of the Axim family of PDAs for a few years running through two X30s and now on my X50. I'll admit that I abuse these things horribly so some compassion should be given to my poor battery and screen. Here are the symptoms that I'm hoping you kind doctors of technology might recognize:

-power button completely unresponsive in or out of the cradle
-unit only powers on using a hard reset and works if kept in the cradle with the main battery out
-if powered on on battery power it freezes within about 2 seconds of going to the home screen and very slowly fades to total white
-battery seems fine, shows full charge
-screen flickers from time to time including one episode of completely weird distortions

So the thing IS usable if in the cradle and with a hard reset every time but it's completely dead otherwise. I've tried hard resets and charging battery in the cradle but it's no help. Seems like it might be some sort of a power issue but I don't want to get a new battery for a unit that might not work anyway.

What do you guys think? Is this something common or should I dress it up in a nice leather case and make funeral arrangements?

Many thanks in advance.

Do you have a different battery? The one you have may be bad. It could fully charge, but, as soon as you put a load on, it dies rapidly.

Ps - Welcome to Aximsite.

Thanks for the response, I think I'll get a new battery and see what the effect is.

Make sure you charge it up real good before you use it.

Let us know how it works out.

Good idea. I think one of the cells is shorting out, which probably causes the rapid discharge.

Worse case scenario is it's not it and you can resell the battery here or on e-bay.
