Replace Axim x50v screen with Axim x50
hello everyone,

I broke my Dell Axim x50v digitizer and I am planning to buy a used Dell Axim x50, and since I find it easier to replace screen altogether than removing digitizer then I am planning to replace x50v screen with x50 screen.

Are there any compatibility issues? I think I ma going to lose some resolution there but I guess that's what I have to do.

Or does anyone know any site that tells me how to separate digitizer from screen because I opened my axim x50v and I don't know how to separate digitizer from the screen.
Screen work but digitizer is broken so the input from pen is most of the time in wrong spot.

Any similar experience?

Any idea?

Thanks

Your message is really 2 parts. Either way gets you to the same destination.

I will address the first part of your question. There are many posts regarding digitizers, or someone else can chime in on separating digitizer from screen.

You CAN replace your broken 50v screen with a 50 screen and there won't be any loss of functionality, or any errors from Windows.

But here is what you need to keep in mind.

The v screen is physically a different size from the standard screen. So what you will do is not just replace the 'screen', but rather, the entire screen (with housing) and command button assembly. That will work fine. Just remove the entire casing (should be 4 cables) and re-attach it to your V motherboard.

You will also have to replace the upper shell from your 'v' with the non v unit. That is to accomodate the different screen size.

Your unit shouldn't even lose memory during this swap process.

I'm going to append my post with this..

Why don't you simply buy this guy's 'v' screen replacement from the aximsite classifieds:

FS: x50v/x51v Replacement LCD Screen ONLY!

I'm sure it will work for you better than downgrading to another unit.

PPCTechs will replace the digitizer for you. AFAIK, the QVGA display/digitizer from an X50 won't work in an X50v because it is a different resolution, different size.

I have swapped screens between v's and non v's about 20 times. It works fine as long as you consider that the shell and screen case need to be moved as well.

@ bernardm Thanks for your input.
I just sent a message to that guy to buy his v screen here at aximsite.
I'll wait, otherwise I will do the way you told me.

@ bernardm and others: Have you guys had any experience with Dell Axim Digitizer x50v from Hong Kong? I can buy one at ebay pretty cheap but I am worried for their quality and if that thing will work at all.

I read somewhere that one guy bought one of these digitizers from China and his motherboard was fried!!
I cannot say if it is true or not but I can say that's scary. you buy something $ 10 and it fies your pocket cp over $ 200.
