X50v upgrade to Win Mobile 6 issue

I recently purchased an upgrade to Windows Mobile 6 for my X50v on eBay. It was a 147 MB download that I unpacked. The instructions indicated to first update the PDA to A01 Windows Mobile 5 ROM located in the folder structure of the download. When I try this first step, I get the error message on my PC shown in the attachment. Any suggestions?

Hi,

I would contact the seller who you bought this from.

Second, I would pop over to a site called XDA developers and read more information.

You will realize once you are there, you need not have bought the upgrade as it is freely distributed.

Hello David,
Thanks for your reply. I have tried to contact the seller and they do not reply. I went to the XDA-developers.com site and found lots of information on cell phone/pdas and pdas in general. On their X50v page, they also provide a link to the Dell site to get ROM updates. So, just for grins, I downloaded and updated my X50v ROM to their latest (R106214.exe; A05). When started, it appears to be the same process that happens with the software upgrade I purchased. The entire process took about 15 minutes and was successful. My PDA came back to life and now shows the A05 ROM version. I then tried the ROM update that I purchased and it gives me the same error message. I am stumped.

Hi,

Try this one from this thread.

Dell Axim X50v WM6 A02 RTM with 0Mb PP (Discussion/Download) - xda-developers

It is a WM6.0 rom with a 0mb pagepool.

This is a link for a WM6.1 rom in the early stages if you want to try it.

Dell Axim x50v WM6.1 A09 (LennySh Edition) - xda-developers

I use the one in the first thread and it has been great for the last seven months.

Let me know how you make out.

For any more help you may need, XDA is the site to get it.

I am not much of a techie.

Cool Wm 6.0

When upgraded to 5.0 I had to make Internet Explorer my default website (it was Firefox) for any of the links in the upgrade software to work.

Thanks for the tip bcorig. However, I can't even get the software to load. I am not sure what I'm doing and the instructions are too brief for me. I need help just to get this upgraded.
Thanks, Lou
