x50v not charging with usb sync/charge cable

A couple weeks ago I bought an x50v. The prior owner let the battery entirely discharge. He also lost the charger.
I purchased a sync/charge cable and battery. I connected the unit to a usb 2 port. 24 hours later the amber light is still on. Initially the amber light turned green and the screen showed the option to do a hard reset. I canceled the reset. The unit then went amber and has not turned green again. The unit is not locked(no red shows on side). Is my unit dead or is it necessary to buy an ac charger. I have tried hard and soft resets without success. Did I buy a lemon?

If the battery is fully discharged then a USB charger will have problems getting it back to a usable state.

Some USB sync/charge cables are better than others, some of the cheaper ones just won't charge at all.

If you can get an AC adapter you are better off.

It sounds like the Axim used the last of the charge trying to start up and now the system has basically shut down and the battery won't charge.

I had a similar problem with a phone that only has a USB input. I tried to start it when it had been unused for a long time, it started to boot then died, put it on the charged for several days, Nothing. I borrowed a fresh battery from a friend and it worked without a problem. I managed to get a charge into my battery using his cradle with an AC adapter and a battery charge slot.

also, charge/sync from a USB port on the PC, not from a hub or monitor.

When you say you have done a Hard Reset, what did you actually do? Some people have different terms for what they think a hard reset is and confuse the terms.

I tried charging from the computer's usb port over 24 hours. Light still amber. I did a hard reset by holding in the reset button in the back and then holding the power button and then releasing reset then power button as instructed. Hopefully I will not waste $ by buying an ac adapter.
