Axim x50v, won't boot past 80%

Hello. I'm a forum newbie. I've had an Axim x50v, 624mHz for 3 years but broken a year with the same issue. Thought I'd try to save it before giving up for a Blackberry. The Axim only boots to 80% of the blue screen. Soft reset and hard reset make no differance. Boot always stops at 80%. I am not able to establish ActiveSync connection.

I have searched forum broadly, but I am not sure what info applies to me. I can't remember any action (new program, update etc...) that caused Axim to break a year ago. I've tried power+record+hard reset but this does nothing special except hard reset Axim. So I can't tell what "diagnostic mode" is that users mention in this forum.

I would love any help to save this $600 POS. Please try to speak plainly in your reply, I am obviously NOT as tech savy as many users in this forum. Thank you.

Welcome to the site!

You can try reflashing the ROM, which just means reloading the operating system. This thread gives you step by step instructions:

Easier way to recover your X50 after you bricked it+premade nb0 files

Just make sure you use the files for X50v.

And BTW, sadly your "POS" is no longer worth $600.

Probem Fixed!!

AMAZING! Got the PDA working again. Can't believe it. I thought it was finished for sure. I managed to get it running with the version for x50v WM 5.0 AO1 files. I used only the K files and not the B ones. Is this likey to happen again? Would it be safer to update now to the AO2 files or keep it at the AO1 level?

Here are the updates A02 provides:
2. wireless roaming function addition
3. Improve CF memory card intermittnet disappear problem
4. CF interface driver improvement for memory and modem cards.
5. Microphone recording enhancement .
6. ActiveSync connection improvement

Flashing always has a risk of bricking the device. So, if it ain't broken, don't mess with it!

Will not brick your PDA, don't worry. Even if the flash process does not finish OK, there is the DELL utility to flash by ActiveSync, so... go on! I don't use my X50v anymore cuz I got a new X51v, so I don't know which ROM is the One. I know that there are options on xds-developers and HTC geeks forums. Good Luck!

I beg to differ. The risk of bricking via SD bootloader and Dell's exe are the same. My previous post was based on the thought that he would flash using Dell's utility.

Usually bricking is due to flashing wrong device rom or losing power when updating. Fortunately, I've flashed many devices multiple times with no problems, just flashed the x51v wm 6.5 alpha2 and back to wm 6.1 L11 with no problems.

Kimchee, as soon as I saw WM6.5 Alpha 2, I thought Lenny!
I didn't check on HTCGeeks for some time. I'll wait on that flashing. It seems to have some bugs I don't like.
