Battery Died - Restoring problems.

Hello,

I recently allowed my battery to die and lost all of my data on my Axim X50v. I did a hard reset and connected my axim as a Guest in Activesync. Whenever I backed up my axim in the past I would save my backup file in different folders according to the date backed up...It doesn't make sense now but at the time it did. When I try to restore it asks me to select the partnership that I had. I have four to choose from, including guest, and I have no idea what my most recent partnership was. Is there anyway to restore my axim by just directing activesync to my most recently dated backup folder? I know that folder has the most recent backup data. I have no clue which partnership is associated with that backup folder. I think I am done. Any suggestions?

I tried to direct activesync to my backup file and when I selected it I got the following message:

Restore cannot be completed successfully. The selected backup file was created from a different type of mobile device.

It wasn't though, it was created using this device.

On your desktop, you should find a folder named "Documents on blah,blah." It is possible there are documents in there.

Yes, I have that folder on my desktop. It has all of my files and documents in it, so those files are accessible. It's my most up to date contacts that are not backed up. I did not sync them to outlook. I relied on my backup file.

So what else do you need alek? You have your files + documents.

From this, what you probably lost was your settings files for any programs lost possible.

I tend never to rely on Activesync/WMDC, they tend to break on me sometimes. I use SPB Backup (It's only $25 for the peace of mind ). Another great product is Sprite Backup.

I'm glad that I have my files and documents. That was a relief. From what I could see on the Sprite Backup site it does not support my version of windows mobile. I did not upgrade to the most current version. I'm still on WM2003se.

Settings I don't mind losing because I can reset most of that back to the way it was before. I still have all of my original program files.

My main concern is that the contacts that were in the most recent backup file are the most current and up to date contacts. Activesync seems to be restoring to an older backup file that I have which does not have the most current contact information. I guess this is a lesson learned. I should have backed up my contacts to outlook as well.

X50V Restoring Problems

I recently went on a trip left my Axim X50V in it's base at home. Battery must of died? Unsure. Wouldn't boot. Did soft restore. Lost all my programs. I have data on 1.0GB ScanDisk card. If I look at SD separately they are still showing. I pull up contacts separately they are all still there. If I push home button I can see programs however if I go to start the only thing that shows is programs and settings. If I choose programs what shows is games with nothing inside and pocket MSN. I have WMDC which I'm not happy about. I tried to restore using backed up data which as you can see loaded very little. Should I buy Outlook 2007 and back up contacts? Then hard restore? I've had this Axim for years and no major problems yet. I use it mainly at work. Any suggestions?

It won't help much this time, but for future reference, consider implementing a Backup Strategy.

There are a number of backup products that run on the PDA that are available for Palm, WM2003SE, and WM5+.

Ah my eyes!
AkaJohnDoe, the contrast of your link is a little extreme...

Anyways, I don't keep that much information on my Axim. Therefore, Sprite Backup does a fine job for me.

Ok guys,
So pull the sd card then hard restore. Then get backup software that helps to prevent this issue from reoccuring? Yes?

No such thing as a hard restore.
Terms for you:

Soft reset
: Similar to a reboot on a PC. Just turns the Axim off and on again. Does NOT erase any stored information

Hard reset: It returns the Axim back to the way it was when it left factory. So it erases everything and returns it to factory condition

Restore: The act of putting information back on an Axim
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Get either Sprite Backup or SPB Backup (Links are in Post #4). Costs 20-30 dollars. It prevents you from losing data in further occurrences. Both have abilities to schedule daily, weekly, and monthly backup times.
Oops! My bad. Your correct. My verbiage was incorrect. Here is where I'm at.
1. Saved contacts to SD card with today's date.
2. Restored to backed up data. Rather old, but will do.
3. Syncing all my books and programs to the PDA.
More later.....Let you know if it all works.
Thanks,
Success! All is working again! Thanks to all of you. I have found the problem I believe. During this process my battery would get very warm on or off the Axim Base. I've always had an extra battery however even when the extra was exchanged it would heat up also. Is this a problem with Axim's? Or is just time to buy a new one?
Exclamation Here we go again. One dead Axim.....
My Axim X50V.... shall I say more. Found that I am unable after multiple attempts to change time. I change the time and it will not stay changed. (I did notice prior to the total shutdown however everything was working at that time and thought I would look at it more on my day off.) Pulled the Axim off it's charging base, went to work, pulled it out of my pocket to look something up and yep your right. Memory Error. Tried to Soft reset, would only start to reset, you could see the blue dell reseting window then... dead. :rolling: (Please read my previous posts.) Well if we are not having fun... Any suggestions out there. I have two theories. First theory is I need a new battery. Second theory is I need to have my head examined. Ok, no comment on the second theory.
Suggestions
I think it is the battery.
Memory errors usually occur if you drop your Axim. But I guess it could happened at other times.
Keep your x50v in the cradle/ charge cable. Buy a new battery.
Exclamation Thanks for the Memories...
If you were to buy a battery to replace the one from factory, what would you buy? I'm caught between getting a new battery or a new device I guess.
I talked with the Dell Tech in India for over 2 hours and the Dell site showed I had 54 days left on my warrenty. The information was incorrect. It was the first one I purchased and had to return due to it would not work. Dell sent me a refurbished one to replace it. It's the one that is having issues now. The first one was sold to someone else and the info showing on my Dell products page was the other person's info. Whoops! :pullingou
Soooo, I'm considering buying a new battery and if that doesn't fix the problem, then I'm back trying to decide what product to buy. Any suggestions
Not feeling too Joyful at this time...
