Aximsitex50icon update probem

I am trying to use the dell update software to step my Dell Axim up to WM5 so I can do the WM6 install. My cradle broke so I bought a usb cord offline. When i try and update it says the ac adapter isnt plugged in but i cant have 2 cords hoked up at the same time.

also my windows vista computer with WMDC wont connect over bluetooth for some reason.

any help? thanks

A true Dell USB cable allows the external power to be connected through a socket on the fan-shaped plug. If your third-party cable doesn't do that, you shouldn't try the upgrade. Failing in the middle for power issues will brick the Axim. Look for a cable that does allow connection to an external power supply at the same time. I would also discourage using BT to do the upgrade, even if it can be done (I don't think it can). Again, lost signal in the middle will lead to a bricked Ax. Finally, you don't really have to go to WM5 to get to WM6, if you use the SD card approach listed in a different forum here at Aximsite.

You have two problems,

If you try to do the update without AC power it will fail. You need the cradle or a Y cable that has the AC input as well.

Secondly, the Dell update will only work on an XP computer using ActiveSync, it just won't work with Vista and WMDC.

Edit: You posted as I was writing Jake.
Unfortunately you do have go to WM5 First, you need the WM5 bootloader to get to WM6
