Dropped, now just Start menu works

Hi folks,

I accidentally dropped my X50. Wasn't that great of a height, but landed almost perfectly on it's face.

Now, no matter where I tap, I can't get anything but the start menu. Can't get to settings to recalibrate, nothing.

I've ran a business card around the edges underneath the edge, to see if there's an obstruction, nothing.

Anybody know how the touchscreen is wired up? Could this be a loose cable that I can possibly fix?

TIA
Mike

Welcome to the site!

Have you tried a soft or hard reset?

I tried a soft, but haven't tried a hard reset yet. Had enough installed I was hesitant. Let me give that a shot.

Nope, hard-reset no-go. Can't get beyond the calibration screen.

Just checking, are you getting any response on the screen, if not it may just be the lock switch.

Or it may be that the frame is pressing on the screen at some point. Try running a business card under the frame between the screen to see if it is making contact at any poing.

Have tried the business card.

Regarding the input question: The original response to any tab was the top-left corner (start menu). I could never calibrate beyond that.

Exclamation

Mike. I don't think a business card will do the trick.

There are a few cables that connect the screen components and the main board.

It's more than possible that one of them became disconnected during the fall.

There are (that I know of) two good resources for taking apart your pda.

1. a pictorial examination to take a pda apart. I think the site is x51v.it . Or something like that. Maybe someone else can chime in because it is a good resource.

2. See this mobility site post for a video presentation to identify the cables and help you put them back together. It is easier than you think.: Instruction Video to Take Apart Your Axim X50 PDA

If none of this works, then the curtain fell and the show is over.

Try Diagnostic Mode. It allows you to test your stylus...

1. Press and hold Power+Record button
2. Tap reset hole while holding the two
3. Release Power+Record button when a screen pops up

bernardm: That did the trick. The cable had drifted slightly loose. I'm not back up and going.

THANK YOU!
