Memory allocation

My x50v seems to be running out of program and storage memory even though there I haven't stored much of anything in the internal memory. Is there a way to allocate more or free up what I have? Thanks.

Install stuff to storage media (SD and CF cards). It keeps the internal Flash clean and also keeps filesys attacks down. If you run programs from the internal flash it will cause filesys.exe to spike up to 100% CPU usage quite often (filesys apparently cleans up the flash from running programs and changed files).

You could try a 0mb page pool ROM if you want 4MB more available RAM, I've been using a 0mb page pool for a while and I think it is faster.

I beg to differ on the page pool suggestion from Calcprgmr1...

Storage memory can be increased by, yes, just adding CF/SD cards. Some programs may not be able to install on a external card (I.e. SPB Mobile Shell). There isn't much you can do.

You have a few options to free up RAM. First you can try out Hibernate, it sends out a hibernate message to all programs that may save you a few MB...

Second, you could try actually closing the programs instead of minimizing them (Default). A program like Wisbar can help you there. A free program like Magic Button also works.

Third, PPC Tech's RAM upgrade (From 64MB to 128MB) can be found here. It costs $169.

The Page Pool edits does not alter the speed of everyday computing by significant amounts. If you decide not to use a Page Pool, sure, ONE program may run faster than normal. But if you even try to open one more program, problems will occur. So basically, you are sacrificing the amount of simultaneous programs for the speed of one program.

I use at most 2 programs...Occasionally I'll listen to music while browsing the Web, so I just need the RAM because mobile browsers eat up RAM really quickly. I already have all my programs closed and am out of room. I don't think $169 is worth it, the RAM chip they put in is probably only a few dollars and a new Axim is less. Plus my Axim is in poor shape as it is, so it definitely isn't worth upgrading.

Which can explain why you have no Page Pool.
But is it really worth the trouble and time changing the Page Pool?

I think Airspeed's best bet is to get a program like Magic Button to close out programs instead of minimizing them.

I concur that PPC Tech's "Upgrade" is overpriced. But I heard some people like it. I might get it for my x51v or x50v once I have enough $$. :)
