I have ms voice installed and am having the bluetooth problem. I also just installed tenGo and noticed it didn't work. On there web page it talkes about resources. Are resourses different from memory? If I start it before I start wifi or bluetooth it works but then wifi and bluetooth don't work. If I start wifi or bluetooth first tenGo dosen't start

Journal Bar
Don't know if this will help, but you might try changing the cache location for journal bar, by default it's in main memory, either change it to built-in storage or the SD card.

OK can I just say that this problem is not related to this. I've had this problem with a FRESH hard reset, with no programs installed. It does it whether Journal Bar's cache is in the main memory, built-in storage or SD card (believe me I've tried, and my cache is now on my SD card and there's still the problem).
This problem happens with no programs installed. Apparently it CAN be helped a little by not having Today plug-ins, but this is an inherent problem in the OS, and I'm amazed that Dell hasn't addressed it yet.

From my short experience with Axim I believe that it is indeed the WiFi stock that causes problems, not the Bluetooth. When you turn the WiFi on the available memory decreases but it does not recover fully after turning it off. It is either the OS W2k3 SE or WiFi drivers or interaction between the two.

Received my replacement unit last week. Reinstalled all and got the same error. After contacting Dell support I received a mail that this isn't a bug, but that there had to be free memory available to run both devices. I replied that I couldn't believe that half the RAM memory had to be free to run bluetooth and wifi. 5 Days passed and still no answer from Dell Customer support ......

I havebeen getting this error constantly during the past 3 days. I found a link to a file called SplashV.exe in the startup folder. I removed the link to the file, which is located in the windows directory and all is fine now. Does anyone know what this file is?

Both the network card error when you try to start the wifi and the bluetooth error are memory errors. I do not seem to get the bluetooth error if my available ram is above 27M - Anything below that and it goes off. Also on the wifi - the more memory available the less frequent you get the network card pop up. You can also make sure that you start the wifi without the CF card in the slot and that will help as well. Because this is a RAM issue that is why program uninstalls like voice and today plug ins will help, but they are not actually the issue. Anyone who paid the big bucks for the RAM upgrade will tell you that it fixes these problems. I myself just pop out my CF and try and keep my RAM above 27M - Hope this helps.

I will have to question it being a memory issue as I have seen this error after a hard reset and not much loaded. Plenty of RAM that is. Maybe there are multiple reasons for getting this error and one of them happens to be memory but not for me :\

I'm not sure, but I *think* that is just a little program that checks to see if you have "Show Owner Information" on boot enabled, and if so shows that funky startup screen with your info. I hope you're on to something though, this "bug" is realllllly getting to me.

Edit:
There is a thread over in X50 General discussion asking about it now, so you'll probably get your answer :) I had forgotten about the Splash photo app also, that seems like a likely candidate, although I'm not sure what it needs to do at startup.

yeah, i asked about that same file, don't think it would be for owner info, it's pretty big...
on the card slot error and wifi thing, mind you this could be complete coincindence, i bought my gf's x50v in november with a cf card initially. hers has been getting this error once a week or so since purchase. i got my x50v right at christmas and only ever put a sd card in it(no cf). never had the error until today when i put one(cf card) in for the first time... no information on it... just put it in.
i figure everyone else has their theorys on this so i figure it's my turn....

Well I'll throw another log on this thread...
I decided to do a final hard reset and live with the unit "stock" for a day of Wifi enabling abuse.
It made it though a day with probably about 40 enabling/disablings, which is far beyond anything it could do before. Not a single soft reset needed. Of course it feels naked though.
OK so then I decided to just load up things I felt I NEEDED to have for life to be worth living:
+ Magic Button
+ 3d Wifi & BT icons
+ WeatherPanel
+ PocketBreeze
+ ContactBreeze
All to the default program storage (not BIS) as they are used all the time.
After a full day of Wifi abuse again (on, off, on, off, shower, on, off, etc) all was fine. I'm going to give it another 24 hours with heavy use though before thinking this setup is safe. Then I plan on going 1 app at a time with 2 days of testing between each to see when it starts to freak again.
I know many of you have had problems even with a fresh stock unit, but I thought this might inspire someone on the fence about a hard reset. I'm trying to keep an open mind about this and would love for it to be a conflict of some kind with something loaded. Of course I could be fooling myself, but at least it's working again for now. :approve:

I actually did the hard reset with a CF card in place (nothing on the card) and it's still in there now. I'll yank it out for the rest of the night and see if anything changes. Still solid at this point.

This is definitely an issue with a lot of people, and Dell needs to do something about it. I have tried soft resets, hard resets, and even a replacement Axim, but this problem along with the BT error keeps coming back! How can we get this information past the tech monkeys that respond to our e-mails/phone calls, and to someone that can actually do something about it?
|
Its going to take several people all calling and being persistant. Also the more re-producable you can make it on a bare-bones Axim, the better.. ie. if you can do a HW reset, then launch X number of things and get it to happen, then you have a good case to make with Dell.
It really would be nice if they'd sticky some of these bug threads so we could condense the info to one place.
Oh, and it might sounds crazy but start with the email support and send them a set of links here with everyone complaining about the problem... I did that with the BT issue and I think it bought the issue some credibility with them (still working that, but might finally be making progress)
Cheers,
Mike
