Findings Update: Testing for Memory Leak and BT / WiFi Issues
3 Hard Reset:
X50v with ROM update.
No 3rd party software
Partnered with 2 pc's (home and work laptop)
Testing all day - NO BT/WiFi/Memory Leak Problems/Errors !!!
Tried all day to make it fail - it didn't
This is the third time - I've had no problems with my X50v with this setup on my X50v.
Tonight will try software not installed on Today's Screen or installed to be on Start Folder (on the command bar (bottom bar))
Will try suspect software:
Resco Explorer

I had a one-time occurance of my driver for my WLAN not being present. I did a soft reset and a restore and it seemed to clear it up.

I hope this helps the wifi troubles. I haven't installed it yet... i don't have my cradle with me... and setting up bt active sync is a pain... (plus I haven't truely mastered doing that yet, wonder if there is a faq about that). N e who, best of luck with all of ya'lls X50's

As soon as you do the major Today plugins, it'll happen. Thanks for the info!

That's the update A02 ROM. It doesn't fix the issue.

After installing the A02 update, I've noticed that if I have the 256MB SD card in the unit (the very SD card that Dell sent to me when I ordered the unit!), I can not get the wlan to load - get the unknown wlan card error in socket 2. I've even reformatted the SD card to make sure something was errant with it but that doesn't change it. WLAN fails to load 100% of the time if the SD card is inserted. Take the SD card out and it loads just fine.
Has anyone else done any testing to see if this problem is related to having an SD card inserted?

same problem with no today plugins
Hey, I just wanted to let everyone know that the "unrecognized card" and the inability to run both the B/T and WiFi at the same time is not caused solely by Today plugins. I get the same problem off a hard reset by installing my SonicWall Pocket Global VPN Client. Which as far I know has nothing to do with the Today's page. If I uninstall my one and only 3rd party application the problem goes away. If I reinstall the problem re-occurs. I've tested this on two different x50vs and both have the same problem. I've installed the AO2 ROM update and still have the problem. I have no B/T keyboards, no CF cards, no SD cards, and none of the software that has been previously mentioned. I just have a clean PDA and my VPN client. So I am leaning towards a WM2003SE problem since someone else said the HP 4700's are having the same problem.

DAYUM! looks like MS is keeping up to its reputation as the bug in all bugs. Sheesh its gotta be a ploy of some sort to force ppl to buy the upgraded versions (some you do... and I know some you dont). MS prolly invented the monopoly game but never took credit for it, for obvious reasons.
But damn it... what good does the rom update do?? Is it even worth the time need to invest in the task? I'm rather worried about loosing my contacts, well pretty much everthing todo with PIM stuff. How do I only back up just the PIM stuff? Oh and btw, I figured out how to sync via bt... its really not that great... not fast at all, just good to do the occasional sync with you comp. but that's about it. For file transfers, and the such wired is much much better! Well until bt becomes wifi fast, which is afforded the way bt tech is goin.

Findings Update: Testing for Memory Leak and BT / WiFi Issues
After 8th Hard Reset - Got the BT/WiFi Errors
You are right WilliamG !
Was having great success if I,
1.) Installed non-today plugins
2.) BT/WiFi is disabled while installing
3.) Removed PDA out of Cradle and did Soft-Reset after each install
Twice - Pocket Plus didn't cause BT/WiFi Errors
But WeatherPanel did (it uses the WiFi to get updates).
Maybe any software that could utilize WiFi to do anything will cause errors too, besides Today's plugins.
I'm done testing (I've wasted enough time) - Let's DEMAND that Dell release MS WM2005 for the X50/v when its released. (and hope it fixes the problems).

more proof it's WM2003SE
I saw this post over in Axim x50 General Board. It's more proof it's a Microsoft bug.
"When i turn it on, i get a message "Unrecognized Card in Slot 2" . The wireless will not work until i soft reset. I experienced this problem on my toshiba e800 after i upgraded to WM2003SE, so it looks like this persists as a WM2003SE bug, not manufacturer.... bummer!" Posted by strong887

This problem is nothing new, and it is not specific to the Axim, 2003SE, or even internal wireless. I encountered the same thing on my old ipaq 3670 with ppc2000 and with ppc2002 with pcmcia wireless adapters from time to time. Most of the time a reset or eject/insert fixed it, sometimes it would take a couple tries. I know someone with a Jornada who had the same ordeal. I've only seen it happen twice on my X50v, and frankly, I consider that no biggy cause I'm used to it. :)

WiFi & BT together
OK, after reading most of the posts (hope this isn't redundant) and spending MANY hours figuring this out:
NOT getting BT & WiFi working together is a SEQUENTIAL problem in getting WiFi adapter ON BEFORE BT. It doesn't matter whether Today plugins are installed or not (within reason) or how many programs have been installed (again withi reason) - you must have a minimum of program memory) but you must have sufficient battery power.
This only happens (only able to get BT OR WifI) after installing programs/plugins and is not an apparent problem with the AXIM X50v out of the box.
If you turn on the power and get a flashing blue LED (BT) without the blinking green LED (WiFi), chances are you can NOT get both to run without getting errors unless:
1. turn off Wireless power by hitting hard button (turns off both radios)
2. make sure after reset that BT does NOT power up (may need to 3. disable BT and then disable wireless.
4. re-enable WiFi only using software program or WLAN utility
5. THEN enable BT
IF you still don't get green led ONLY when power up (OR AFTER ENABLING wlan), disable Wireless again and reset. You must have WiFi enabled BEFORE BT !!
MOST IMPORTANT -- ALWAYS disable BT before powering off the AXIM and this problem will not recur !!!!
hope this helps.

BT driver memory & Unrecgonized Card
I'm having the BT driver and Unrecgonized Card problems on my 2nd
X50v. The 1st one was replaced for digitizer problems.
The 2nd one has no digitizer problems but the BT/UC is getting annoying.
BTTrayCE
The Bluetooth Radio failed to turn ON due to
insufficient driver memory available. You must
perform a normal reset before you can turn ON
the Bluetooth Radio.
Unrecgonized Card
Enter the name of the device driver for this card.
For information, see the card's manfacturer's
documentation.

I guess I'll try Dell handheld chat for support this time.

Tell us what they say.
Rumor has them working on a patch.
Ask them if we are going to get WM2005 since the problem is a WM2003SE problem.
