I had that message running once or twice on my x50v, but... (and I'm sorry if this has already been pointed out)

What I did was to reinstall some of the software in the main memory to the built-in or even SD Card.
I did this because at some point I could only have BT or Wi-Fi on, never both of them at the same time, which made me wonder about the crappy windows stupid free memory manager when you load too much software at the startup.

And it worked just fine, BT and Wi-fi at the same time! Never again I got that message, so, for my x50v, it all seemed to be just a "core free memory" problem.

Exclamation Unrecognised Card in Socket 2

Funny you mention this, as I read the other postings to this thread, your article was the first to strike a chord.
When I initially had my X50v, I experienced the same Wireless Adaptor errors, however, they were fairly infrequent. I discovered normal WIFI operation was restored after a soft reset, (as did everyone else here). In my case, because this error only appeared occasionally, I didn't really consider it too much of a nuisance.
Upto the time I purchased my 4Gb Microdrive, I had not always used both expansion slots at the same time, but, I did notice that when I did, I didn't seem to have the problem. (I cannot recall if it mattered which slot was empty).

I now permanently have a 256MB SD and the Microdrive fitted.

I use Wireless internet via my Home BB router almost every day to sync with my mail server, and I connect to Hotel and Airport networks all around the world. I haven't seen the error message, nor have I experienced any WIFI problems for 5 months or so.

I have to say that I have very few complaints about my machine, it's performance, styling and features are outstanding.

I would be interested if anyone has had a conclusive answer yet from Dell?

The Cool Bald One.

Any thoughts? I have removed my SD card and it seems to be so far so good.....(obviously that is not a long term solution though).

I am also getting the same error as shown in a picture by Mickey53Usa in response to this thread.
I normally Disable the WiFi after hitting Cancel. It works when try to Enable after some time (about 5 to 10 minutes after).
Strange thing is to see BT not getting connected to due insufficient memory, though Wifi is ON. This is annoying and when I check the PROGRAM RUNNING in the Axim X50v (Start-Settings-System-memory-Running programs) see nothing active.
I am not sure how to resolve this.

Thx,
Srini.

This thread doesn't make it clear, but the A03 ROM upgrade seems to cure the unrecognised WLAN card bug.

Funily enough I have had my dell for ages and recently left the WAN switched on overnight not in the cradle which completely emptied all the battery power from both the main and backup battery.

Having the effect of a hard reset - and low and behold I now have the
BT driver/memory error. I've gone into the startup folder and removed the driver so that it doesn't load on startup anymore - it was really irritating me.

The problem was if you did a soft-reset it would load the BT software fromthe startup - which I don't use and didn't want starting up anyway then if you turned it off all would be fine. Then when you switched the X50 off then back on again later it would come up with a message saying that it wouldn't load the BTtrayCE device and give the message about drivers and memory.

A hard reset and cancel would reset the device and would load the BT again at restart - why is loading the BT when I don't want it to???

So now it doesn't load the BT at all until I adjust the startup folder to include BTtrayCS again which I won't - so there.

Did a hard reset and installed stuff back on the X50 an now both the Bt an d WLAN work exactly right - come of it they did before the power loss so I guess it must have been something I installed - but I insalled everything that I could onto the SD card nothing in main memory,

Now I've installed everything I could on the SD card except TOMTOM nav 3 becaue it worked very very very slow on the SD card and everything works great.

Result

Seems to me the BT error must be a software driver memory conflict.

i am still having the unrecognized card issue. They replaced it..still a problem. No software is installed to take memory and I tried all the other "fixes". Nothing. I am hoping the new Windows will fix it.

I'm running A04 and I'm still getting it now and then (no devices in the slots at all).

Also, when I try and set up a bluetooth network, I sometimes get "there are no bluetooth devices installed on this device" even though I can connect to the PC for other services.

I'm still very green with my device as I've not had too much time to play with it, but time will be made in the near future ;).

I reckon that its just a prob with the currant version of WinCE, but thats just my 2p worth.

just got my axim 2 days ago, and have been having the same problem. Worked fine the first day and now its kinda......wierd lol

At first it was the wifi that didn't work, but that started working again. Now the bluetooth gives me the driver error, or it will just say insert a bluetooth card if you wanna use bluetooth.

the today plug-ins that I am running are
spb pocket plus with the awesome expea vga extended theme
wisbar2 with the expea theme
pocket weather with chromium skin
and pocket breeze with the expea theme/skin

BTW, I noticed it after I installed all the apps, but... A hard reset did not fix the wifi problem. I restored it to factory fresh and removed all, but I still had the wifi problem. Only after booting in the newly discovered (for me anyways :p ) safe mode did the wifi come back. both worked for a while, and like I said bt now won't load no matter what. I have not done another hard reset as i have just got my axim the way i want, and I'm not looking forward to getting a refurb for my 2 day old x50v.

Ok, to those who say this is a ram issue. I have to agree. I hard reset again, and installed everything possible onto sd card (except pocket plus and wisbar).. after a soft reset, I now have 39-40 mb free, and I no longer have problems with either the wifi or the bluetooth.

So, hopefully when wm2k5 comes out in a couple of months, it will fix this permanently

Unknow card in slot 2

Owe you a big one. Ijust tried moving the slider to allow only 7M for storage and a ton for programs. I didn't even have to reset. My wifi radio came on immediately and accessed my router. Thanks to your suggestion iI am surffing again.

I've gotten this issue when I am looking at AvantGo and then try and turn on the WiFi. Soft Reset and it works fine. I just have to remember to turn on my WiFi before I use AvantGo.

For those of you having this problem what program are you using or does it happen at various times? Maybe the issue is with a certain program or type of program.....

I received my axim in August of 05. Never had this problem until today. But sure enough, turned on my Axim today and wi-fi wouldn't connect. It said there was no driver loaded.
So I did a soft reset and tried it again. I tried hitting the hardware button that launces wi-fi.... Nothing
Then, I used the Dell connections menu, did some tapping around, the driver loaded and away I went.
Very weird.
