It is definitely software-related. Strange enough, since my last hard reset, I haven't experienced this error anymore. I also make sure that free program memory is always above 8MB.

I figured out on my axim that if i have Pocket weather, pocket breeze, and SBP pocket plus installed I can either start BT radio or Wifi. Can't have both at the same time. Even after a softreset. If BT is on and I try to turn on wifi, i get "Unrecognized card" error. Then I have to softreset to fix that problem. If I start with wifi, and then try to turn on BT, it gives me the usual "Not enough memory to turn on the BT radio". Softreset fixes that.
So I said goodbye to PocketWeather (full uninstall), and now I can have both radios working together. Also I stopped using the oddysey client, since it's huge and it doesn't provide me with any advantages. Hopefully Dell creates the patch soon.

This is NOT a device problem that warrants replacement. I had a Toshiba E-805 and after I upgraded to SE I had same thing. Problem IS today plug-ins and SE. Just do soft reset and enable wireless. Fix may someday come. Don't wait around for it though.

This error means you cannot use a BT keyboard to input while trying to access files on a wireless network (which isn't a far-fetched idea). Soft-resetting has no benefit for this scenario...it still won't work. Dell dropped the ball here.

For the record, I have 16.4MB of "Program" memory and STILL WiFi & BT won't work simultaneously (25% of the TOTAL AVAILABLE onboard RAM isn't enough to run standard X50v features?)...that's pretty bad.

FYI, if I reset with WiFi on and then tap on the BT icon right away on boot then I can get BT to turn on. That's the only way that I can have both run at the same time.

I'm only just curious, that the solution is to free RAM a little bit (soft-reset)... But for what? I did the test I checked the RAM status before activating the WiFi and then after (BlueTooth is running)...

Here are the results:
When: Before activating
Storage: 8.16 MB
Program: 26.56 MB

When: After activating
Storage: 8.16 MB
Program: 25.69 MB

So WTF is that? Somebody tries to say to me that the driver is 870 kB big but needs >~30MB of RAM?

Well, having installed battery pack I have noticed that during the initialization of the WiFi driver the memory requirements jump temporarily- perhaps 2-3 MBytes and then it settles on approx. 1 MB.
I do not believe that this has something to do with common memory but is rather related to mem heap management/segmentation fault. And since it is consistent accross HW platforms based on W2K3SE there is some homework to be done by MS.

PS: Say hello to ce4you

Hm, it sounds really silly and confusing... It should be the memory managment, but maybe this is occuring when we are getting too close to 32 process limitation and the driver cannot start because it's killed by process managment... I guess... I will investigate it more...

PS: Where do you know about ce4you?

Don't think it has to do with the process limitation since it also occurs when there is virtually no process running (except for the system process).

I believe it might be to do with the number of times you enable/disable wireless (i.e. memory/resource leak in the drivers?) - but who knows (hopefully someone at Dell does!)

I have removed the "Bluetooth" tray icon from the startup, as I do not use Bluetooth - did that by using file manager, going to "\windows" folder, creating a new folder called "startup-old", and moving "BTTrayCE" from "\windows\startup" to "\windows\startup-old". Have also done the same to "splashv" too (whatever it is).

This appears to keep the X50 wireless working a bit longer. But still need to soft reset it every few days when wireless ceases to work.
