Unrecognized Wlan device?

Every now and then my Axim x50v gives me an error message when enabling the wireless device saying something along the lines of 'unrecognized wireless device'; usually a reset of the Axim clears it up. Next time it happens I'll get a screenshot of it and post it here.

I get something like that... It asks me to give the "new" network device a name sometimes when I turn on the WiFi.

Sounds like a device driver problem. If that's the case, it will probably require a software upgrade from Dell. You might want to send a message to tech support and maybe also post about it in the Dell forums. Give them as much info as you can about when the situation occurs - things like whether the wireless was on or off when the device was turned off; was the PPC turned off between turning the wireless off and back on; was the network active when you disabled the wireless (that is, were you connected to a network when you either turned off the PPC or the wireless).

I am also getting the same message...do a reset and everything is fine. I tried going to the downloads for Dell in the Axim X50v section and get a "500 server" error...anyone else seeing this?
It's only when you try to get into the "downloads" section.

Thanks

Keith

Just submitted a request to Dell through their Support site. We'll see what I hear back now.

I discovered that if I installed BatteryPackPRO, I would lose the WLAN drivers. Uninstalling BatteryPackPRO fixed the problem. Dell's downloads support is still down. Bummer. :realmad:

Hey All,

I was wondering if other people having this problem are also having trouble with their BT? I noticed that my wireless buttone only turns on the WiFi by default. If I manually enable BT then I get this error if I try to enable WiFi. If I enable WiFi and then manually try to enable BT I get an error saying there is not enought driver memory available, and that a "normal" reset will fix this. If I soft reset my device, my wireless button still only enable WiFi. Anyone else encounter this?

I am also receiving the error, is sounds more like a WM 2003 SE problem than a driver issue.

I have noticed the more I utilize the wireless network adapter in my X50v the more I "lose" my driver and get this error and have to soft reset the device. It's getting really annoying and it appears Dell really missed a big one here since so many people have experienced the problem.

Upon soft reset I also get a message sometimes that says my Bluetooth license has expired and I can no longer use Bluetooth, but everything seems to be fine. Strange.

Overall I love the device but I think the reviews are a little favorable to the battery life. Even in processor AUTO mode I am not getting the 3-4 hour battery life mentioned - especially when using VPN through the network adapter.

I received an e-mail from Dell providing a driver download link that is supposed to resolve this problem. The problem is, their downloads site for the X50 appears to still be having issues (still getting the Error 500). I have replied to Dell and asked when their site will be back up. Will let everyone know if the driver update fixes the problem.

I just obtained a return authorization for my X50 over this issue. Technical Support was unable to offer any assitance other than to suggest a hard reset.
Maybe I'll try Dell again in a few months, but for now it's back to HP.
I may also take a close look at Sprint's new PPC6600, and see whether HTC got it right with that one.

I sent an email to Dell support two days ago and they didn't even attempt to troubelshoot the problem with me or suggest downloading a driver, they just sent out a new unit. So far so good on the new one but we'll see.

I wonder if Dell sent out a bad batch of these things. I did notice on my original unit it came shipped in a box labeled "X50" even though it contained a X50V, the new packaging is labeled "X50V."

BT/WiFi

Hey Guys,

I'm still having the same BT/WiFi trouble as in my previous post. Only one works at a time. The wireless button only turns on WiFi. If I try to turn on BT after WiFi is on it says there is not enough free driver memory to enable BT, and that I must do a "nomral" reset to correct it. If I soft reset, it will let me turn on BT, but if I try to turn on WiFi I get the "unrecognized card" error. Tonight I'm going to try a hard reset and see if that fixes anything. I haven't contacted Dell support yet because I've found them to be essentially useless. If anyone gets a driver update or anything of that sort, please post the link here.

Thanks!
Dr. Gonzo
