X50v - No simultaneous BT & WiFi?
I can have either WiFi or Bluetooth enabled, but not both at the same time.
When WiFi is running and I try to turn on the BT radiom I get an error message about there not being enough 'driver memory' and that a soft reset is required. However, the soft reset does not solve the problem. If I start the PDA with WiFi off, BT works fine, but once BT is on, the WiFi radio will not start - no error message, nothing.
Anyone else having similar problems?
==
Randy

Mine works perfectly - I use the WIRELESS button on the left side to turn on the wifi and then I use the bluetooth icon on the bottom of my screen to bring up a menu that allows me to turn on the bluetooth. It will effect my signal on the wifi for about 1 second, but does not drop enough to lose my connection. Sounds like you may have to many programs running or a software conflict. I would try a hardware reset and play with it without any adds. Then contnue to add programs - Do a soft reset after you add each program and then test the bluetooth and wifi again. You may also want to cut down on your storage in RAM and allow for more ram for programs before you try the hard reset and begin testing to see what is causing the conflict - GOOD LUCK. Let me know what you figure out.

As I don't have any good way to test both, I am glad to know this is not a definite flaw. I do plan to use both in the future.

When I first powered on my X50V, with no progs installed, I had BT come on when I turned on wireless.
No wifi. No green light. No matter what I did, wifi would not activate - just BT only initially.
A hard reset fixed this issue.
I then disbled BT manually, and when I turned Wifi on it worked as it should, with the green light. Connects to my router no problem, with mac filtering enabled.
However, as you can see I am only enabling the wifi alone - not BT simultaneously as I dont need BT at this point.
I have since tried the two simultaneously, and they work fine in tandem. Blinking blue and green alternately.
However, last night I had to perform another hard reset - The same initial wifi bug I mentioned returned (just BT no wifi when wifi button pushed, as above)
Another immediate hard reset and it was back to normal.
Theres definately something amuk with the driver for sure imho.
As you can see, the same issue returns after a hard reset. Then followed by an immediate hard reset and its normal...2x in a row now.
I'm glad my Axim works wirelessly as it should at present. The only programmes I have installed are PocketWinc to connect to my AP, and the games. Nothing else.
I always check the memory/running processes and kill anything I dont need.
This probably wont help much, but just so others know whats going on, and what I did to fix it.
Regards,
AXM

As a proof of concept I tried both running at the same time. I set up my ActiveSync to use BlueTooth and started it up. Then I turned on the 802.11 and went on the www. The light on the 50v flashes alternately blue-green to show both radios are on. Had no trouble ActiveSyncing with BT connection while downloading MSN via wifi (from my wireless AP) and vice versa. To make sure I wasn't activesyncing via wifi (though it is set up) I disabled the activesync-by-network-connection feature temporarily to lock it out. And to keep from surfing via the Activesync connection through Bluetooth, I disabled the pass-through feature in ActiveSync. These actions should have definitely caused Activesync to only happen through BlueTooth and surfing only through wifi.
I'm jazzed! It is really cool that it works, capabilities that one wouldn't normally expect of something so small and fits in the palm of your hand!
Randy, be certain that you have no extra programs running in the background! Tap: Start,Settings,System,Memory,Running Programs to look for and shut down what you don't need running.

Well, it's defiantly not a problem with all Axims, I can use both WiFi and Bluetooth at the same time; I was just playing around with it using a Bluetooth GPS device and WiFi to upload data from the GPS, worked fine.
I'd check your memory settings. When I enable both and open both control applets, my free program memory jumps down from 14.01 to 11.17, so I'd guess you need at least 3mb free Program Memory (plus some extra so PocketPC doesn't run around trying to close programs on you) to use both.

Bah....last time I checked they worked simultaneously.
Now they do not.
I am getting the memory error now when I try and activate BT and WIFI at once.
Soft reset as suggested does not work. I have NO running programmes and plenty of memory.
Theres been too many people reporting this, so I hope they fix this driver soon, as I want to use BT eventually.
I'm at a loss....

This is a problem with the OS, I believe, not the Dell. I also have it on my iPAQ and have read it was an issue on other iPAQ models (older models). I also believe hp released an update for the older models, so it seems possible for the mfg to do such a thing.
It seems the place in memory where the wi-fi and bt want to go get filled up with other drivers/apps. Makes it hard to pin down if a particular app is doing it (doesn't seem to be).
I also find that making more memory available isn't always the answer. I have had the memory error with over 40 MB available for both. I have had it work perfectly with less than 5 MB for both.

Yeah, it seems to have a mind of its own...
I have only two games, sevga and pocketwinc in storage memory.
No running progs in memory, when I check.
BT and WIFI together will NOT run either way for me right now.
The only time I ever saw it work was when I first did a hard reset...It worked simultaneously then on one occassion, but nothing since...I keep getting the memory error.
Now I'm a bit ticked, as I have a BT headset coming.
I hope Dell (or whoever) releases some kind of driver update, where we can all use the BT and Wifi simultaneously.
IMHO there are too many people getting this error, and it needs to be addressed somehow.
Mine will be sent back if it remains unfixed, put it that way :)

The problem is SE_VGA
I have found that IO get this probelm only when installing SE_VGA. Whever it is installed, I loose one or the other(BT or Wifi), I hard reset all is fine, then I install SE_VGa, it works once then stops.

I don't have SE_VGA and I can not run them both at the same time. Either wifi or bt but not together. Seems like a common problem.

I did a hard reset today, and did not re-install se_vga. Both BT and Wifi worked correctly after this.
I believe mine may have worked once with se_vga installed. It was installed to storage memory. A second and third try at BT, and it gave me the driver memory error. No other running programmes in memory, and soft resetting did not fix it.
It never knocked out my wifi, just BT every time.
I have hard reset and done this twice now - soon as se_vga is installed it kills BT every time on mine.
I have no other programmes installed but the game pack, pocketIrc and PocketWinc. Everything works as it should with just these few programmes. It's basically stock.
What are the best alternatives to se_vga?

I don't think that this is related to SE_VGA. I never had it installed on mine and there are other reports of the same behaviour without the SE_VGA. On mine, I installed Dashboard, Journal Bar, Resco Explorer, Ms Reader, HandyMenu, AOL Messenger. I did not try to use BT and WiFi before the installations but now they do not work together. I will probably try hard reset to see what if there is a software conflict... but I think it is a driver problem, eithe BT or WiFi.
