Hi
I just got my x50 mid this week as well and while I have not had this extreme problem I have had to soft reset my new x 50 mid a bunch of times (its only three days old) and did not add a bunch of software .
I sync to a fairly new toshiba a75 laptop and sure hope it doesn't fry my board.
I seem to have solved my own problem with resets by turning the x50 power management from "auto" to normal.
"Just as an FYI for all you folks out there. I have a brand new Axim X50v with the docking cradle. I docked the X50v and the mouse cursor stopped working on my computer. I re-booted and none of the USB ports worked. The computer then spontaneously turned off and would not restart at all. The motherboard was then replaced and now working fine.
I added the docking cradel to the system again and docked my X50v and there was little popping soung, the computer spontaneously turned off and there was a sudden electrical burning smell.
Now, another motherboard has come and been replaced and my system is working fine.
I called Tech Support for Axim (I have Gold support for the Precision 670 WS so there was no problem getting the MB's). The Technician looked at the case reference number for the Precision 670 and then asked my if I had antoher computer to plug the docking cradle into and the X50v.
Are you kidding? I said, "yes, I have a computer" and then "no, I will not blow up another motherboard". The Technician agreed but had to get special dispensation to repalce the Axim and the docking cradle.
I do not think I will ever connect the X50v to a computer again. I will need to figure out how to connect bluetooth or wirelessly from now on."
Sal - now that I have a replacement cradle, everything is working fine. However, after blowing 2 motherboards' usb ports, I was pretty scared when I first synched.
so this is something to look out for? Is the ac adapter involved or is the amix istelf sending the surge?
Can anyone who has had this happen to them answer this question, I am sure there are many X50's waiting for Christmas morning (mine for instance)and now I am very worried as I have a personally built custom box...synching up and blowing my MB would really hurt...anyone?
I doubt it has anything to do with the ac adapter - I always thought it was either static discharge or an improper connection between the axim and the cradle where pins were getting crossed.
I have mine plugged into a USB hub, it'll take the hit first, the only thing I plug into the back of the computer is the hub, keyboard, mouse and a scanner....that way the hub us the only thing I need to worry about. I've noticed that static electricity and the x50v love each other....I touch my computer case or the metal tray under my desk to ground me. Good luck with tech support.

Holy Moley, this is kinda scary. I know that for the FIRST sync you need to be connected via USB cable/cradle but after that you can use WiFi and BT to sync.
I never have the cradle attached to my PC after the initial sync setup. After that I ONLY use WiFi over my own Home Network or if I'm not home, then I use Bluetooth to Sync.
I would suggest you guys/gals do the same just to be on the safe side.

I plugged in my axim one day and the entire computer shut off. It ended up hitting the surge protector reset button. I dont know if I overpowered my PSU, its a 300w with and x800, 2 cd drives, 2 hds, a floppy, and mobo attached to it.
What!? Yeah that could be a possibility. If you're running an X800, 2 CD's, 2 HD's and a floppy, you should have at least an Antec Truepower 450 Watt.... :hide:
You're a very brave person (or a very silly one) doing that. Either way, I really do reccomend you upgrade your power supply!!!
