I have a laptop... if the motherboard goes, I'm up Sh!t Creek without a paddle.

The usb controllers on 2 Asus P4C800-e motherboards were fried - however the boards still worked. The first rebooted randomly after the ports fried - the second seemed to work okay (if you call non-functioning usb ports okay, that is <g>). Another poster on these forums reported that 2 motherboard were rendered completely non-functional. No one that I have seen has had problems with the sync cable. For those who write this off to user error - think about it: the end user is more likely to screw up forcing a sync cable in the wrong way than screwing up with a cradle. As I have mentioned before, I have never seen so many reports of usb ports rendered nonfunctional with any other pocket pc I have owned since I joined and started following the pocket pc scene approximately 5 years ago.

Mine's caused two failures of my HP workstation at work. The IT guys said power supply and mb the first time. The second is still pending. I hope to know more when I return to work tomorrow.

BS

I had a Handspring for over 2 years used hotsync cradle multiple times every day.

Got Axim X50V and fried (or fired in your case) HP workstation twice in two weeks. It's a hardware problem. Merry Christmas to me

Kind of makes your blood boil, huh? It's not as though placing a pocket pc into a cradle requires any special skill. Fortunately, with my replacement cradle, everything has worked fine for close to 3 weeks now. I am waiting for Asus to send me back the first of the two fried motherboards. Dell's CS Manager is trying to pretend I don't exist. I will continue harrassing her on Tuesday. :)

I bought a bluetooth adapter last week and i recommend that to people for syncing. But in transferring larger files then bluetooth just stinks. So while i did find a workaround, in the end then i think this is just too much work and worry for something that shouldnt have any problems. My Ax is on its way back to dell and im back to running my 4 year old PPC that never gave me any problems.
