Brand New X50V troubles...

I messed around with my new X50v for a while until I pretty much got used to it. Then I did a hard reset to start clean and fresh. That was a mistake. After the hard reset, it displays the DELL splash screen then the Microsoft screen then the dreaded alignment screen. For the life of me, I cannot get off the alignment screen at all! I can tap a thousand times and some times that target will not move. Some times it does. When I get to complete all the target hits it just keeps repeating itself and I'm back to target 1 again. I can go throug this about 15 times...it's stuck in a loop! How the hell can the EPROM be bad on one of these things? This is my second hand held ever and my first one NEVER gave me one problem and I had that baby for years. Are they made like crap now a days? I have a feeling. Well, if anyone can suggest anything...since there's not much else to do I doubt it. Besides a hard reset what else can anyone do? Yes, I pulled the battery out...and all that Jazz. I'm stuck with a $400 handheld that I can't use now until Dell sends me a new one which will take MONTHS since Christmas is around the corner. I may want to stick with PALM OS and not this Pocket PC crap. It's probably more reliable since every MS software title ever written crashes on a daily basis and doesn't work %100 anyway. O well...I guess this is the welcome I get to the world of Pocket PC's. hahahahahah.

Check also that nothing has gotten between the frame and the screen that is pressing on the screen.

On the same note, it might also help to remove the screen protector, if you have one installed.

A very odd thing...I left the unti with the battery out for about an hour...then re-started. I had to do the screen align thing about 20 times! It took a while, but after 20 times of clicking the damn target it finally went on. Things like this always happen?

You might want to call up Dell now and ask for a replacement before this problem repeats itself again.

Replacement is on it's way. Dell indicated to me this is some thing that's NOT suppose to happen. One or two alignment checks and that's it. No more.

I'm having a similar problem but after I get the screen alinged it will lose the alingment after 3 or 4 power cycles. Can you e-mail me the particulars of who you caontacted and are they sending a new one with packaging to return the old one? Thanks a bunch. Nick

I just contacted Dell Customer care. They told me they would ship me out a new one right away and then just replace the old one in the same box and use the pre-paid shipping label they send me. I don't have a particular person I talked to. The new unit was only 1 day old when I called them. If the new unit does the same thing, I will call back and get another unit. If it happens again then I'll request my money back and wait until they get all the bugs out or buy another brand.
