I can get get the wireless to work on this damn thing...

I've followed the steps in the user "guide" and so far, no joy. I've also tried everything I can think of, but I evidently do not know the Dell equivalent of the Vulcan Death Grip, secret handshake, or whatever this thing wants out of me. My frustration level is high, I'm near water, and I fear for the future of this device.

Could somebody please provise a step-by-step procedure for getting this thing to connect. If I can't get this to connect, then back to Dell it goes.

What are you trying to connect to? If it's a home wifi router, make sure it's set to mixed (B & G) mode or B-only; that it's set to provide an additional IP; try it with the SSID broadcast and all security disabled (temporarily);
