Dell Axim x50 English -> Italian
I have purchase one Axim x50, in english version PPC2003SE for errate order. (order in italy)
Contact Dell, but not possible replace version english with italian.
I inquire, if not possible restore any version PPC 2003SE italian version on ppc2003SE english version?
Sorry my english.
Thanks.
Giorgio
-------------------------------
Ho ordinato il palmare in oggetto alla Dell per telefono, mi è stata
invita la conferma d'ordine, confermata, ho ricevuto il palmare con PPC2003
in versione inglese.
Non mi ero accorto che nella conferma era indicato english nella versione
del palmare, ma non mi era stato richiesto quale versione volevo. ( in
Italia, italiano!!!)
Contatta la Dell mi dicono che non c'è niente da fare, mi devo tenere la
versione inglese.
Da qui la mia domanda:
Ma no c'è proprio niente da fare, ho per esempio posso trovare una copia del
S.O. in italiano
è la posso ripristinare sul mio palmare?
Grazie
Giorgio

For me the problem is just the other way round: I bought the Axim from the Italian Dell-site and..... I got Italian, but I'd like to have it all in English. Somewhere I read that one could just manipulate the A02 ROM update, but that seems a bit risky to me.
Peccato Giorgio, se ci fossimo vicini, potremmo cambiare le scatole ;)

Ipod in your case it's easy. Just flash the ROM with the english version. Say goodbye to the warranty though.
For Giorgio is a tiny bit more difficult because I don't think it will be that easy to find a ROM in italian.

Wish it was that easy... :( I tried by mistake to update to A02 ROM in English (it was on the Italian DELL site!) But it wouldn't let me, since the languages were different. Or do you have a way around?

Yeah, of course you can't update the ROM through ActiveSync if it has different language, but you should be able to do it by using a bootloader. I am not sure how it works on the X50 yet.

Thank you for your reply. I will wait to see if anyone tries it before I do ;) What I can't figure out - even by using search: what's a bootloader? Is it a little reader/writer, or is it some piece of code in the new ROM? How would one USE a bootloader?

Well, that would be very convenient :) But then again, we don't know eachother, and those things are always a bit risky.
By the way: the idea of swapping the X50's is in the Italian line ;)

L'OH, pardon me. Non parlo affatto italiano! Tuttavia, siete corretti. Questa transazione ha potuto essere abbastanza rischiosa.

Never mind :). Do you - or anybody else - know where i can find something about a "bootloader"? Someone claimed that it was easy to turn an Axim into an English one, and that there are only problems when you do it the other way round. But i would love to know how i can do it...
Ciao, IPod
